  • Third gen gas tank

Hey guys I think I have a leak in my gas tank at the top somewhere. I filled it completly up with gas like to the top and drove it to work and had a nice puddle underneath. I think there might be a hole or something. I drove it around at lunch time picked up lunch and didnt see anymore driping (yes my camaro is a gas hog) so I think about droping it out to investigate and might try to find a better one if this is in rough shape. I am hoping the guy with the two free TA's might have one. So is it hard to drop? Can I do it with the rear in the car as well, also would a thirdgen bird tank be the same as my camaro?

    Thanks.

Someone told me you could do it without dropping the rear all the way out of the car.....I have never tried it that way... I just dropped the rear to get it out of the way.

You can put a 4thgen plastic tank in there if your so inclined.

Yes you can do it with the rear in the car. done it several times. Support the car so the rear end can fully drop down remove the exhuast, pass spring, unbolt the bottom of pass shock, remove the panhard and brace, the gas filler door and inner plastic around the neck at the gas fill. It will need some slight persuasion past the panhard mount but will come out.

either that or get it up high enough where you can drop both bottom shock bolts and the rear can swing away much more

Thanks guys, I think mine has a small hole in it torwards the top, thats what I have concluded just by looking at it out in the parking lot. Looks like I will be doing this too. Sounds like just get the car up unbolt the shocks and start removing shit! Sounds fun lol.

I was thinking the same thing, actually I am thinking about tracking down a rear end right now too, and maybe just ripping more of the car apart... Does the project finally begin, with the gas tank? mhm....

                    Check the filler neck too.

I've heard you can fit fourth gen plastic tanks in there? Maybe I'm wrong.
