  • 700R guru needed

    My tranny has been acting really weird lately, on the highway its hard to get it to go into overdrive... it will just scream alog at 3k RPM doing 70 in third gear. Also, doing 70, if you stand on it it will downshift to second and bounce the rev limiter.

    From a dead stop it will run up through first then bounce the rev limiter and wont go to second till you let up.

    I re-adjusted the TV cable with the auto adjust, no luck. So then I tried manually adjusting it to either direction - all does the same thing. Just changes where it part throttle shifts.

    Think one of my governor springs came loose/broke?

      TH-700R4 doesnt have a vacuum modulator, you're thinking of a TH-350.

        duh.. the last one i worked on was a 4l60e... with vacume looks the same..lol hmm i dont know you would guess t.v cable from thouse kinda reactions... thats what a 700 has alwasy done for me...did you look to see if the plunger on the trans itself is sticking at all? connected to the t.v. cable i had the outter spring on the plunger brake before... cheep little 30 cent piece did the same thing and killed it.

          Do the usual.. fluid and filter. You might not be getting enough line pressure for the trans to act intelligently.

            its a 700r4 it never acts intelligently... if your lucky you find a retarded one that can do basic task such as up shift and down shift... think of the group home worker at wendys... sure he can help but not alot

              It has a brand new filter and fluid in it as it was just done up this winter.

                I ran a tranny shop for 2 years.
                Drop the pan and see how much metal is in it. There will alway be some,but if you have alot or it is real thick then you need to have it rebuilt,which is what is sound lick to me. Sounds like your clutch plates have worn out in there.

                  It shouldnt need to be rebuilt as it was just rebuilt this winter... dont even have 2k miles on it. It shifts really hard and squeeks the tires so I know its not slipping, it just kicks down and bounces the rev limiter.

                  Im going to play around with the TV cable some more and see what I can get out of it.

                    Pop the gov cover off and have a look....like you said, sounds like a spring or weight might have come off.

                        I have no clue about 700R4, but maybe this would help.
                        Kickdown Kit
