i have a fresh rebuilt 700R4 for my 350, and its really nice. that was last summer, dont drive ehr in the winter so only a couple months old. but anywho, how much power can these suckers handle? i have the money for a roots type blower the B&M and Weiand style's but can the 700 hand the power i will be creating? somewhere between 350-400 hp im guessing. and for show dates and stuff with a bigger boost pulley def 400 or more. so im just curoius could the tranny support that power all the time?
second question. my dad is really weening me towards a NOS nitrous system. somewhere between a 75-125 shot. do you think this added power would eb bad for a 700R4 tranny? or not really a problem because your not getting power all the time?

any suggestions comments ideas your own experiences are welcome, thanks!

I'm not an expert but i doubt it would handle it unless you had it rebuilt to make it alot stronger

Is it a stock re-built unit? If it is, I would say you could put 350-400hp to it without too much trouble.

More power will wear it out faster, built or not. It's a fact of racing that people don't face.

You're not going to make a 100k mile pull on any automatic trans without a totally stock engine.

Get a stall converter, a big-ass trans cooler WITH an electric fan and make sure you keep your fluid changed.

You'll be fine for a good long time with the blower. If you're not breaking parts, you're not trying hard enough.

On the nitrous, don't do it. It's too hard on parts to be worth it. Streeters have a misconception that it's magic, it's not. Nitrous is for guys who build engines to handle 2-3 runs and then rebuild.

i dont know thats really pushing the limits of a 700r4... they are junk in my opinion... not the trans itself... but the T.V. cable on the trans "dropdown cable" is so touchy you can blow them with 100hp... a stock 700r4 should be able to handle around 300-350hp fine if it was given all the new upgrades to fix the glitches its had over the years... most new rebuild kits will fix most the problems the trans has... i say just wait till you hit 10,000 miles on the new trans if its still running fine they you should be ok... they usually puke out before then if they are going too... but you should look into some upgrades for the trans... some of the old vette 700r4 parts would help alot, and are a common beef up toa stock 700r4... nitrous isnt going to kill it but unless you built the motor for it i would say dont go more than a 125-150 shot tops... otherwise you will wear out parts fast... its not hard to toss a 350 or 400 trans into your car but you loose overdrive, a 200c or 2004r are pretty good for overdrive... atleast not as many problems as the 700r4... just take it slow use the smallest setting and work your way up...
