  • Gen questions about a 3rd gen...

A few questions for the people who know best locally so I hope I'm not in the wrong section.
I have a 91 firebird, I was in the starting phase of redoing the car, life got in the way, lost the job....etc.
I don't have the money or time to do what I want to do so I'm thinking about getting rid of the car.
My questions are: would it be better for me to part out the car or sell as whole? IF I part out the car do I have to remove the parts? Is the 305TBI engine worth enough pull to sell?
If I decied to part out, would someone be kind enough to help me make educated pricing on the parts?

This is not, an I'm looking to sell thread, its general questions, so if you have quesions please let me know via PM. But being a long time member here I'd like to get some good feed back but I will post up here on these forums when I'm ready to move.

bWithout pics of the car, and more info on its condition, hard to say. The 305 is worth a little, but not much. most people pull em and replace them with 350's or something bigger.
Really, it depends on how much you want to get out of it, and how long your willing to wait for the money. Parting it out would bring in more money in the long run, but you would have to wait for all of the parts to sell.

Whether or not you have to remove the parts would depend on who buys them, as you may have to ship them to your buyer.

sell it as a whole. Its not worth much either way.. Just more hassle parting it out. 305s are boat anchors.

If it was me, I'd sell it whole rather than trying to part it out...the unwanted shell of what you have left over will be a big PITA IMHO.

Unless you have the tan/beachwood interior...I might be able to help you out with that...

selling it as a whole would be easier and better, but thats said without seeing the car. Its really not worth pulling the engine as not many people would want it. But is it manual or auto?

Thanks for the quick responses guys.
A bit more about the car, its pretty solid, no surface rust or holes. Its a cali car that had paint delamination bad so mostly primer now. I replaced the D side from fender. Has 111,000 miles but has been sitting for about 4 years. It will fire up and I guess run if I put an exhaust on it.
Interior is grey cloth, no holes visible, and carpet is really nice.
Now I know I'm making it sound awesome but there are quite a few reasons I dont' drive it, 2 biggies are there is a short in the neutral safety switch that has caused the throw out bearing to wear fast. THe exhaust needs to be replaced and its in primer but was garage kept. Now after sitting I can not get the fan to kick on either.
I'll get some pics tomorrow but it seems like whole is the way to sell it.

            Thanks tons.

Sounds like selling it whole is your best option. It would be a project that wouldn't take a whole lot to finish. Idk third gen prices too well but I'd guess you could get $2000 for it?

Yeah, this economy makes it hard to sell anything. Your best bet that ive found to work is to give it a rattle can touch up, a wax job, and some cheap chrome. People want to spend their money on something that starts and drives fairly reliably and looks and smells clean. Give it a good sprucing up and put it on craigs list and hope for the best. I hope this helps and I wish you the best in these hard times. Eric L

I would sell it as whole. Took me about 5-6 months to sell my 92.

selling as a whole is not easy either, but you should probably sell as a whole.

I have someone interested in that year formy, so let me know VIA PM how much you would like to get..

Definitley keep it whole. there's fewer and fewer non-rusted out 3rd gens around so it's always nice to see another one kept alive.
Parting it out is probably a bigger pain than you think. Teardown is alot of work, you're limited in what you can sell if you wanna keep it a roller, then after you sell everyhting off it you can you gotta haul whats left to the j/y on a trailer to get $200.
                      IMO, just not worth it.
I'm much more active on TGO as they have more info pertaining to my model, but I do stop by from time to time.
