  • To buy or not to buy? 86 T/A

I think I'm addicted, if I but this one, it will be the 5th 3rd gen I've bought this year. Stumbled across it on Craigslist, went out to take a look at it. The body/ frame is CLEAN. One small rust spot on the drivers side shock pillar in the usual place.

Needs a windshield, and the interior is pretty hit. No big deal, I have a replacement interior. Car was originally silver, repainted black with Krylon.

Does run, doesn't idle at all. You take your foot off the gas, it dies. I did find that the vacuum to the distributor is disconnected.

Supposedly, it has a 350 from a corvette in it. Haven't managed to get to the ident number yet. Too much wiring in the way. The valve covers are stamped chevrolet, but they are aftermarket, so that proves nothing. The headers supposedly were stock on the engine before it was swapped. Can anyone identify them? The TPI unit looks a little strange to me, different shape at the end than my 87 was. Not sure if the vette one was different.

I really don't care about the motor too much, it runs, good enough for me. Guys asking 650. Hell, the hood and GTA rims are probably worth that.

So, buy it or let it go?

I'd get it and make one nice car out of the 4 you'd have in your driveway. Then sell the other 3 for like $750 each.

The one I have is almost done. Running out of things to do to it. This is kind of my hobby, buying them, doing some work, selling them for more than I have into them, getting the next one, etc. The red one I have is almost done, just have to put a few interior parts back into it and shim up the nose to get it to line up with the hood.

The black one I think I will actually keep. I like the 86 because of the distinct taillight, and there is no frame damage to deal with, unlikr=e the red one I have now. I also like the TPI better than the carb.

I'm more into the looks than the performance.

Yeah me too, I would rather have a car that looks good and runs than a POS that is built. So looks like a new project coming , I like the hood.

I'd say buy, there's enough parts there to recoup your initial investment.

buy, worst case if you decide you dont want to fix it, you can part it out and make money.

                        try to go for $500

that hood is HIDEOUS, if the rims are in excellent shape then you might have your moneys worth. I would too offer 500 and go from there.
