  • 89 gta ??????????

Looking at a 89 GTA, 150K miles, 50K on motor. What motor did the GTA come with 305 or350? This has a rebuilt 350, unsure right now if it is the original motor. Interior is mint, except headliner and small hole in drivers seat. Body appears to be cherry, no dents, dings or scratches. Tranny was also rebuilt recently. Need rear brakes. So, to sum up, 89 GTA with WS6 package, details above.. What would you pay? Oh, also has the original GTA rims which also appear to be mint. I may buy this tomorrow, would like any and all input, what should I look for, code to verify GTA, etc?? Thank you.. Sorry, no pics...

Sounds like a cool toy. Should have come with a TPI 350 in 89.

Nevermind, after looking at kbb, he wants way too much. I am still going tomorow and relook, but my offering price will be much lower

Here's a good reference for the VIN and RPO codes to tell what it should be.

The GTA has a RPO code of Y84 that should be on the sticker in the center console.

They came with either 305s or 350s.

All 350s were automatics...305s could have either manuals or automatics.

                        Hope that helps...

Thanks guys.. I looked at KBB and other places too, he wants way too much.. The car is in very good shape, runs like a top, but he wants 5500, I doubt I can talk him down to a reasonable price.. I wouldn't go over 2500 and I doubt he'll drop that far..lol

Third gen prices are all over the board right now...many of them are just hitting the 25 year mark, so they will begin appreciating in the near future...150K miles is only a bit more than 7000 miles a year, so it sounds like it may have been babied...

And clean ones do command a premium...many of them have been beat to death...

IMHO, without seeing it, if it's as clean as you say, and is an original L98 350 car, and the motor is matching numbers, he probably can get $4500-5000 if he's willing to sit on it a while...
