ok, i'm going to go get that camaro tomorrow, the guy says it has a 350 that he swapped in place of a 305, with the same ecm and injectors and all that stuff. I was wondering what injectors do the 305s use, and the 350s use? I need to use it against him so i can lower the price on the car. Hes asking 2995 for a z-28 with a "350", thats torn up. So if you guys could please help me out, with most things you would need to change to go from a 305 to a 350 just on the manifold area. Greatly appreciated, thanks

The difference between the 305 and 350 TPI is two things.
305 has 19lb Injectors,
350 has 22lb Injectors.
305 and 350 have different MEMCAL packs (the "chip" in the ecm). You'd need new Injectors and the proper MEMCAL to get it running right.
Since its an 86 and has a swapped in 350 is likely a perimeter bolt valve cover head, which means its not a factory roller cam. If its a centerbolt head then it might be a factory roller motor... but they started those in FBodys in 87. Trucks didnt get them till 94-95.

Matt pretty much summed it up. Just be sure and check the casting numbers so you aren't getting taken for a scam.
Also....you can use those 19lbs injectors just fine on that 350....just need to get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. It's not the "right" way to do it, but it works. Back in the day before I starting burning chips I had 19lbs injectors running a very mild 406.....I just had the pressure jacked up to 60psi

alright, well I still wrote all the block numbers, and what injectors are for what, and the memcal pack thing, i need as much stuff to use against this guy as possible so i can get it for as cheap as possilbe. He thinks i'm just a stupid kid that doesn't know anything at all but oh yeah i'll show him, start throwing all these questions out that he won't be able to answer. HAHA, in his face

oh and also, if i get it, would you recommend changing it to speed density instead of having a MAF sensor, and do the tpi airfoils really show an improvment?Last edited by thursday12889; May 17th, 2006, 08:29 PM.

I'm not commenting on the MAF vs. speed density issue. I personally have a MAF set-up in my car, but am switching over to SD when I get the time. I have tuned both set-ups before on other peoples cars. I prefer SD from a tuning aspect.
Airfoils are a gimmick. The gains you see from them are negligiable at best.sigpicTurbo Charged LS1/T56

oh alright, now since you seem to know alot about the tpi engine, i was also looking at the slp runners, slp cold air kit vs. a k&n filter right off the throttle body, and switching it over to SD. So you think go the SD route, but what other things could i do just for some bolt on performance parts, without getting real high dollar, like your engine appears to be from what i saw at the dust off?

MAF is more forgiving with mods. You wont need a custom chip with mods and mild cams, SD will need a custom chip for anything much more then exhaust.Originally posted by thursday12889oh and also, if i get it, would you recommend changing it to speed density instead of having a MAF sensor, and do the tpi airfoils really show an improvment?
I have a TPI airfoil... couldnt tell you if it helped, did it same time as cam and heads.

oh, well know anything about the runners and the cold air intake setup? And yeah I'll stick with the MAF, just get a high performance JET one or whatever there called. If you guys have any bolt on ideas i can do that will give me more power after i get the engine rebuilt please list them. And I will post up pics of that 86 camaro tomorrow.Last edited by thursday12889; May 17th, 2006, 08:53 PM.
