  • Power window motor install

One of my power window motors was dead and the other was getting slow, so I thought "why not replace them both?" Well not the easy job I thought it would be!!! I now have both door panels off and my passenger window still will not go all the way up because the motor is not seated properly. I have the old motors out and the rails all in place and working but I cant get the motors in place. I have tried different size rivets but they keep breaking off - any ideas?

not really sure whats going on, i take it you can't get some rivets back to hold the motor in place.

Use some small bolts. Its real easy when you do it this way instead of rivets. Just make sure you tighten them really well.

yep what he said, use small bolts, my window motor came with some bolts to use. job was a breeze, you just put the bolts where you drilled out the rivets to get the old motors out. Shouldnt take long at all if you have the motors out already. There is a step by step howto with diagrams somewhere online that I used.

I dont remember having a problem at all. its been a couple years but there should be a hole you can reach in to get behind it. i cant recall but is the fbody speaker built in there? if so you should be able to reach in the speaker hole after removing the speaker to get around that way.

No speaker in the door - there in the top of the dash. I have a hole at the front of the door where the motor sits. I'll try to squeeze through there and see whats up. Thanks

Now I'm really fu**ed . I attempted to use the screws in the kit - Big mistake. Now the glass is laying in the door and is completely off the track. Anyone going to be in Grand Haven area Wednesday and want to lend a hand????? As I type this, my car is sitting in the yard with my truck topper laying over top of the open window - heard we may get rain tonight

I just did this on my z28. You need to drill some 1/2" holes so you can get a finger in there to hold the bolt. Check out www.shbox.com For some helpful hints. It's really easy! And don't forget to tape the window up so it doesn't drop when you change out the motor.

Guys keep in mind he's doing this on a 1992 Firebird - not a 4th gen. I do not know how different the 3rd gens are from the 4th gens.

yep, for some reason I thought he had a 4th gen ws6, on a 4th gen its a piece of cake, as for third gens I have no clue , use some sort of C clamps or something to hold the window up while you are working. That is what I had to do on my dodge dynasty when I replaced those.

Yeah - my dad has these massive rubber c-clamps... we used that on the window and it held it up really good.
