    700r4 Updates

    Looking to go through my 700r4 transmission. Besides the performance rebuild kit, what other items should I look at replacing / updating?

    The rebuild kit I'm looking at contains the following components:
    Alto Red Eagle clutches and Kolene Steel plates, including the Alto Red 3-4 nine clutch powerpack. Also included is a Kevlar band, Transtec soft parts kit with every rubber seal and gasket that you'll need to complete your rebuild. The kit comes with a new filter, pump bushing and extension housing bushing.

    BTW - early 1983 27-spline 700R4 is what I'm dealing with and I know there were a lot of updates throughout the years on this transmission.

    I'd go with a shift kit if you weren't already planning on it. However I think those are easier to put on with it hooked up. Not sure, Mattodoom put a kit in his 700r4 he might be able to correct me.

      Are you looking to go with a manual valve body?

        Get a full manual reverse patern valve body with a ratchet shifter.

          Correct me if I'm wrong but I didn't think they made the 700r4 in '83. Are you sure its not a 2004r? If so its a better tranny anyway, all steel internals vs the 700r4's aluminum internals.
