Any idea what this is?

From the sounds of it, since it only came on the t-top equipped models, I can guess only two things. Apparantly helping the inevitable body flex by either acting as a structural support (8-O) or helps cover it by deadening the squeak of the doors moving in the body? So, by removing them, at best you get noises. At worst, your body will flex more and your tops will fly off when you romp on it then your car breaks in half. However, it probably won't do much of anything by taking them off all together since GM went years without them on fairly identical cars. The 'instant auto-eject' function just comes to mind because of an incident I had earlier today during a 'thorough diagnostic test drive' on a customers '92 with a built 383 that supposdly wasn't running right. BTW, anybody have an extra drivers side lexan top laying around?

My 92 does not have these. It looks like a strike or latch plate to me. Do you have the cut out in the door jam just under this brass piece?

MY 87 Iroc have them. I just look I did not know that they was on the car.

Out of the Four third gens i had, 89 rs,86 sc, 86 iroc, 84 z. Only the 86 sport coupe had them.

None of my 3rd gens had those. (86 Camaro hard top, 87 Firebird hard top, 92 Firebird ttops)
