Welcome to the Michigan FBody Association website.
The Michigan FBody Association is a centralized website for FBody enthusiasts to discuss what's going on in the Michigan area. MiFbody.com was created to allow for an easy one-stop place to find out what's going on in Michigan as far as FBody events, to find out what clubs are available in your immediate area, and for an easy place to post classifieds for items you want to sell! Our goal was to create a more close-knit community of FBody enthusiasts in the state of Michigan, and to bring Camaro and Firebird enthusiasts alike together for some amazing FBody events!
The most important thing to know about the Michigan FBody Association is that we are NOT a club! The Michigan FBody Association is open to everyone, and is a community. Thus, we will have get togethers, casual cruises, events, and such like that, but this is not an exclusive club and it's 100% free to join this site! So what are you waiting for? Register now!

basically I've bee hearing good things about the Vortec cast iron heads PN SD8060A from Scoggin-Dickey,they only run 680$ if anyone has aftermarket heads on a 350, what kind you have? how much of a difference you getting? i think this pair of vortec would be good with a blower or power adder, as i would like to add something next summer after the heads or late this summer. Input please!!!
*well about 1200 for intake, gaskets, bolts ect... money not an issue here, just performance.

vortech heads are good for the money. I have Dart Iron eagles and they made a hell of a difference. But if I was you and I was getting vortechs GM Performance Parts now make a better flowing version I will have to take a look and find out just what they did to them.

the vortec heads are a bargan and its no problem hitting the 400 hp level with a decent roller cam like the GM hot cam. The is however some drawbacks to using the vortec castings. You have to use a vortec specific intake, self aligning rocker arms and center bolt valve covers, all of those will cost you extra coin if you don't already have them. They are generally higher in price than pre 87 intakes and rockers too, so do some homework before you purchase those heads. Don't let that scare you though, you will probably still save money on the entire swap comapred to an earlier style performance head. Oh and the vortec heads are limited to a valve lift of .460 unless you have them machined for larger valve springs, another extra cost, but it looks like you already knew that based on the $680 price tag you stated earlier. You can get the low lift heads for around $500.
they make vortec heads that have the pre vortec manifold setup but it seems to loose about 5hp over original because of the smaller runner size... i dont know for a budget vortecs are nice but you can find a nice set of old heads too and get them worked... my buddys 86 cutlass has 610whp with a set of old dubble hump 64cc heads... but then again we have an old nascar mech down the road that did the work to them...but for 400 bucks he can have pretty much any stock casting flowing as well as most aftermarket, hes got a flowbench and everything does a great job... whenever i find new heads they are going to him first...
just make sure you match them to your setup and figure in the cost of an intake if you dont get the retrofit heads... vortec is normally 50-100 bucks more than the pre vortec version

now finding that new intake, there is one for a tpi set up correct? because alls i have seen is carbed...
This is the only one that I know about for TPI. http://www.sdpc2000.com/catalog/1460...-Baseplate.htm The also have one for a Carb http://www.sdpc2000.com/catalog/2614...tec-Intake.htm If you need one for a carb let me know, a friend of mine has one off his 330HP GM Crate Engine. We put a TPI set-up on it instead. It pretty cool 85 chevy pick-up with TPI 330HP GM crate engine, 6 inches of lift, 4.56's and 35's. Oh do the Mustang boys cry when they get their a$$ handed to them by a lifted 85 Chevy Pick-up.
if money is no object dont waste your time with the vortecs. theyre great if youre on a budget but if you got the cash get some afr's. i have iron eagle platinums and theyre nice and seemed to make a nice difference but if i had the cash AFR all the way
