V6 MPG's

So, how many MPG should I be getting with my 3.1? I go pretty easy on it most of the time, and I'm only getting like 18. I've calculated it several different times and always got 18, no more no less. I do have a reman. PCM I had professionally installed, and 6 fairly new injectors. It's all stock stuff. Seems like I should be getting low 20's but I dunno.

What do/have you gotten in your V6 firebirds? and If I should be getting more are there any common culprits (besides the blindingly obvious)?

Yeah, if the 3.1L is anything like the 3.4L then that's pretty decent. My 3.4L got 16mpg average.

I don't know about that... when I'm done with the cam swap and what not I would be surprised if I'm still getting more than 16 mpg

Hmm, well thanks for the input. I know this kid mitch who always tells me about the 25mpg he gets in his Buick with the LT1. Guess I'll just have to live with it.

lol i got 26 mpg highway with my cammed and UNTUNED LT1. of course i have a manual though.

The situation that you're in (which is the same situation I found myself to be in) is that the v6s of the 80's and 90's suck (from experience: the 3.4L). The 3.8L might be a little better, not sure. But, in comparison, the LT1 and LS1 are awesome on mpg. Purely guessing and speculation, but I imagine that they probably spent a lot more R&D getting the v8's to be great on gas mileage whereas the v6s were "sufficient" and they just didn't care as much.

Hmmm...I had a 3.1 in a Grand Prix for a company car a few years ago, and that would get 25 or so on the highway.

I know that when taking the 89 to storage a couple of weeks ago, it got 28 on the highway.

I took an all highway trip to IL once and back to WI and it encompassed 365 miles and I ended up getting 420 miles to my tank in my 2000 3.8L Camaro, which gave me about 34 MPG highway. Mixed its usually in the mid 20's...Now the '96 Z I usually get about 17 MPG mixed, but I liked to gun it a few times cause I just got it, and it has a 6 speed in it.
