  • ESP module

So my car has been dying. I'll just be going along at 60. suddenly the engine stops and I coast for a while before stopping. Sometimes it restarts, only to die within the next mile again, sometimes it wont even do that.

I took it to a place (jacks) since this is out of my skill level. First they replaced the PCM, that didn't work (I knew it wouldn't). Now they're replacing something called the ESP. I don't know what that is but I doubt it will fix the car. Does anyone know what that is?

They're eating the cost now so I'm letting them do what they want. But does anyone have an idea what it could be? It's idle is all over and it has a tough time starting if hot too.
I'm much more active on TGO as they have more info pertaining to my model, but I do stop by from time to time.

Do you have VATS? I think its the Module for VATS but I am not sure.

You mean the vehicle anti-theft system? Hmm, now why would they want to replace that?

Don't know, I just did a search on thirdgen.org of a esp module and what came up was vats stuff and viper alarm/remote start systems,

My guess is they meant to say ESC module which is the Electronic Spark Control module. Gotta love garages that don't know thier stuff. I'd remove my vehicle ASAP from that place and take it to someone who knows what they are doing. Anybody who blindly swaps out a ECM without troubleshooting it is a retard. GM service manuals have flow charts just for this sort of troubleshooting.

haha, From the start I thought it was a bad fuel pump, just by how it shuts off without warning.
That's what I thought when they said they replaced the PCM. It's been spitting out error codes, I wonder if they've even bothered to check them.. If I get it back and it still dies I'll probably have to just take it somewhere else. I got friends in other garages who don't just throw new parts at a problem.

So they called me and here's what they figured out. 3 of my injectors were shorting out after the engine would heat up. In turn they would short out the PCM. So they;re giving me 6 injecotrs and a reman PCM. My fuel pressure regulator was leaking, which would explain why the car always smelled like gas...
