  • Tune Up

    Hi All, just joined today.

Recently picked up a 92 RS that needs some tender loving care. Have been doing some of the work myself but would like to take it to someone in the Livonia, Plymouth, Canton, etc. area who can give it a good tune up. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Welcome and enjoy the site!

By tune up, do you mean plugs, wires, etc, or tuning the computer?

Yeah, if you mean a standard tune up (plugs, wire, what Jeff said), that would be very easy to do yourself.

Computer tune on the other hand...

Well at this point we're talking just the regular old wires and plugs kind of tuneup. The fun stuff will be later after I get her back to basics first. Wires I don't mind, already did the rotor and cap...but looking at the plugs...well, that looks like it could be hours worth of work (and lots of swearing. Plus, I don't think I know enough swear words to last me during the replacement of the plugs).

So, if I do take this job on...any special tools I should have ahead of time (extensions, universal, etc)?

        P.S. Thanks for the welcome!

It's not hard at all on a third gen, though some plugs can be a little tricky, but you should be able to get away with a 5/8" spark plug socket, a socket wrench, and a 3/4 open/box end wrench.

You don't have headers, do you?

The box end wrench is for areas where using the socket wrench isn't useful. You simply slip the spark plug socket over the plug, and use the wrench on the back of the socket.

shouldnt be too difficult as mp81 said he nailed it get a sparkplug socket so you can use a actual wrench on the end if the socket wrench wont fit

                  Tune Up

                  Excellent ideas and thanks.

If you see blue smoke rising above the west side...you'll know it's me changing the plugs!

                  Thanks Again
