That looks like a decent kit, but with a good set of heads you are going to be looking at 400 hp or more like Jeff said, I wouldn't be comfortable with that cast steel crank over 400 personally, yeah, its probably rated to 500, but why push it.

If it were me, and I don't know what your budget is but this is going to cost money either way, I'd be looking at this:

    http://store.summitracing.com/partde...rsview=sku&Ns=

Now the only drawback to that kit is the Hypereutectic pistons instead of forged, but they might allow you to swap them. Although Hypereutectic are fine for NA applications up to 500 hp I'd say. Its more the cylinder pressures that can hurt them, when you start adding boost or nitrous and increasing the cylinder pressure you can hurt them after a certain point.

Just my suggestion, Well, there, I spent more of your money, lol.

Did you get 64 or 72 cc heads??
That will make a difference in compression also.

Can you give us all the specs of the cam shaft you have now?

Personally, I would never destroke a 400, it's a waste of money in my book. Destroked 400's came into existance for one reason, to meet a rules regulation on maximum cubic inchs allowed. If you are going to alter the cubic inches of a 400....stroke it. But I'd just leave it alone personally. My 406 had torque out the ass and was a blast to drive on the street. Being able to smoke off a tire at 30mph was intimidating.

Oh and....smack your buddy and let him foot the bill for "knowing what he was doing".

I'm about 100% sure it had to do with valve lash then.. How did he lash the valves? Thats just as important as putting oil in the pan....
