  • i am starting to hate my car

    well i not sure how many of you remember but about a month or so ago i was having problems with the 305 in my car running like crap and then adam (badinfluence) the god that he is lol found me a new 305 got it home put it in the car and it ran great now i havent started it in about 2 weeks and i started it today and it started once and ran just like the last 305 i had and now wires are shorting out all over the place i dont know what to do so i am coming to you guys in hopes you can help me. if i dont have this going by july 14th which is my b-day it will most likely be on here forsale because i have had about all i can take of this cars crap now if some one offered me enough money i would sell it right now i would also trade for just about any fbody or any muscle car that i liked so if you can help that would be great but if you are looking for a project throw out an offer or post up a trade. it is a 1983 camaro z28.

    Please elaborate on wires shorting out all over the place.
    Are you blowing fuses?

      how much do you want for it?

      if i were you i would ditch all the wiring, and re-wire it from scratch, only wire up what you need and just run it by switches

        well at first it started and i shut it off and then it would not start again i tried it a few times and then the ground wire coming off the negitive battery cable started melting the coating and smoking fixed that and now you turn the key and smoke starts rising from all kinds of wires and my dad said it was shorting out wires. i cant rewire the car i start messing with wires and get really confused it's like a foren language. on the price it all depends what you want with it i have a 305 the old one i had will go with it and then i have an auto tranny and a 5 speed so it all depends on what you wanted with it you let me know that and i will get you a price or if you want any of it.

          I just had a car in at work that had some of the same problems. Turned out the battery had shorted out. Took out the alternator too on the car. Might want to check your battery-Your negative battery cable should not melt...

            both the battery and altenater are brand new they shouldent of shoted out but i can check you do that with a volt meter right

              i was more joking about buying it but i might consider it if it was a roller, car looked like it would be a great project

              re-wiring it is pretty simple...just run wires battery > starter & dist > switch and it should run

              then hook up all the accessories you want (radio, heater, etc and just use the current fusebox to determine what fuses to use)

                check and make sure that your ground wire is good. Should be connected to your block. Take it off and clean all areas around it. I have had the power wire going to my starter melt to my exhaust manifold which caused a short. This sounds like it may be your problem. I would go check right now if I were you.

                  just the body and interior i have like $1000 just into that and then about $800 into the 5 speed set up and about $500 into the engine compartment thats just a quick estimate but i have put every dime i get into this car and i still cant drive it i would be willing to pay someone to help but i can only afford to pay them if it worked because i have to babysit for my money so it takes forever to get any money.

                    my ground wire and starter ar both connected good and not melted to the exhaust my negitive battery cable is bolted to the altenator bracket and the ground coming off that is bolted to the frame of the car and the big copper ground cable is bolted to the fire wall and bolted to the back of the head

                        yeah it is carberated but like i said i have tries to wire stuff and it just confuses me and then i just get more frusterated at the car. i have tried to rewire my radio and took all my wiring back out and i also cant wire gauges or my windshield wipers they all blow fuses when i get done with them

                          i believe that if i can find a cheap roller 3rd gen that is in descent shape i will just transfer all the parts over to that and let someone who knows what they are doing restore this one since i have done alot already to it. what would someone give me for the body if you want anything else with it let me know. the body needs paint and an engine and tranny and the wiring rewired make me an offer i cant refuse and its yours.

                            ok i am wondering if anyone can give me a ballpark figure price for someone to rewire my car i want the whole car rewired and only the stuff i need wired back in like the engine compartment lights radio gauges heater my special horn wich runs threw the lighter and a few other things. i would like to know this so that i can save up the money to have it done.

                              ive had the same problem before. follow the positive wire off the battery and the starter and make sure it isn't touching metal. a positive wire being grounded out will burn up ur true ground wires.
