ya there is no modifications needed to the trans to do gears it wont hurt the engine at all unless you feel the need to do 130+mph all the time.. all you have to do is adjust the speedo to match the new gears you can usually find a chart online to tell you what plastic trans and speedo cable gears you need to match up with your new gears... and if you have an electronic speedo 90% of the time you can adjust it in the cars computer... but for yours gscz28 its the older style electric speedo so i think you still need the plastic gears to adjust it...

Uhm from the style of his car it looks like an 85-87...... I dont think hes got the electronic speedo... I know for sure my 86 does not. Non the less Its still very simple.... it doesnt hurt to drive around with an unaccurate speedo either... I know i did for quite some time.... You've prolly been driving long enough to know how fast 55mph feels (or in my case 65mph hehehe)

ya i still havent fixed mine yet really dont care to much i'll wait till i get money for all new guages then fix it... im just saying thats the only thing that would need to be done... but i guess that is if you care about how accurate your speedo is

I need to maintain some sort of gas mileage, so which is better? I'd venture to guess that the engine will spin slower with a 3.73 gear, but how much faster is the 4.10? Will I notice a decrease in gas mileage? Would I be able to whoop a Neon SRT-4? lol (j/k on that last one. . . lol)

Well since your a manual you can still putts around in 5th at highway speeds and be ok, dunno how bad it'd be but most guys get 4.10s for a stick and 3.73s for an auto. Gears usually run around $250 or so if I remember correctly but thats for an LS1 dunno about a V6 rear, they aren't too bad but install is a bit of cash unless you do it yourself.

i've wanted to get some 3.73 gears soon........i think 4.10's would be a little much for my daily driving. Wnat to keep my gas reasonable too.

you have a manual, even with 4.10s you can always cruise around in a higher gear and still get decent gas mileage.

you think? i Don't want to be above 2k while i'm doing 80 on the free way. I know it won't be THAT much higher, but because of my mods it's suckin up enough gas......PLUS it's an LT1...hahah

well with the 3.73 gears you will do 80mph at 2,700 rpm with the 4.10's it would be about 3,000 rpm still not bad for how much quicker you would be... if you can do 80 at 2,000 rpm your talking little gears...

and sure you might have one hella a possibal top speed right now but it would still take you a month to get there with that small of gear... and you couldnt keep it on the road when you did get there...lol
