Yeah, with the exception of LSX engines, you have to remove the heads and intake to do a cam swap, because you have to remove the lifters.
I really like the LSX, and how if you pop some clips, and then rotate the cam, it holds the lifters up in place, and when you're done, you just lightly tap them, and they come back to rest in place, on the new cam. For some reason, I remember something in a magazine about that type of system for a "regular" small block...could be mistaking, though.
I'm really starting to think about a cam swap in the little 305. I mean, it actually sounds kinda mean with the stock cam, and the cutout wide open, but I want more lumpity, lump - you know, that real healthy sound...but then I start to think "welllll...I might as well upgrade the heads...and port the intake and plenum and get some high-flow runners...", then I remember that I'd like to get a 383 eventually, when I have enough money - and this little rebuild will not help me to keep a cash level suitible to building that 383. So, I'm back and forth...Last edited by MP81; May 19th, 2008, 09:53 PM.Gone but not forgotten: 1986 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z

Well yeah, but I'm getting a whole new motor with the 383, and I figure this'll cost some money (whether I do it or not, there's still the cost of the cam) - I don't think I could do it anyhow, this being my DD as well.Gone but not forgotten: 1986 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z

if your getting a whole new engine do it then. it wont kill you gas mileage too much. you will not regret getting it unless you get too big of a camsigpic
