Thanks, I'm in kzoo,
and Im not locked out of my car, as I said the door keys to my 99 camaro work on the doors for my 85 TA so I can lock and unlock it, it is also running because I havent turned the ignition switch back to the "lock" position, so it starts without keys....but I am going to sell it soon. A quick search on google/ebay shows the ignition switches are going to run about $140 and looks like it might be some work and im not looking to spend that kind of money on this car right now.

Try Champion Lock & Key in schoolcraft. I know they can cut you a key to Fit the car from the existing lock cylinder. I don't remember them being to badly priced either.Originally posted by Monte721 View PostThanks, I'm in kzoo,

take your glovebox lock to the locksmith, he can disassemble it without damage and get the info to make new door keys. for the ignition, the code is stamped on the lock cylinder. pull the cylinder and get the code. that does not mean rip the cylinder out of the column

Ben, you don't need to refer to me as "My Buddy", everyone here knows me. We registered here around the same time 2 years ago. . . lolOriginally posted by phoenix_rising View PostGM is awesome. Just go to the dealership and let them know you need a duplicate. My buddy locked himself out of his firebird and they gave him a new key for $3.00. I <3 GM!!!
Now Ford on the other hand...
Not only are their local dealerships are closed on Saturdays, but they only keep records for cars '98 and newer, my explorer being a '94. To top it off the police will not let you in your car, Locksmiths want $70+ to let you into your car, and tow guys want $40.
So basically if you lose your Ford keys you are SOL. Just my luck I lock mine in the truck to go yell at my bank people, just to come out and find out what I did, have to walk around in the bitter cold for like 2 hours while we try and find a Ford dealer that is open to help us.
Luckily, I have some great friends who are pretty sharp with opening up locked cars. So with the aid of a pile of coat hangers, some screwdrivers, and some persistence voila! I'm back in my truck and able to b*tch about the bank that gave me such a hassle.
Anyway, if you do decide to get a whole new ignition for the car, it will eliminate that pesky little problem of being able to remove the key without the ignition in the "Locked" position. . .
just an FYI. . . lol
