Keys?

SO I stumbled home from the bar a few weeks ago (I walked) and I could not find my keys anywhere. I thought maybe they would show up but no luck. The 2 sets of spares that I kept at my brothers' and my parents are also gone. Luckily my 99 camaro key works for the door locks and the car can still run becuase its in the accessory position. But its still an inconvience and I'm looking to sell it soon, which might be hard to do without keys.

The key smith said to go to the local Pontiac dealer whcih was not helpfull saying it would be too hard to do. Any Ideas? Anyone wanna buy it?

Yeah the dealer should make you some keys, all you need is your title.

For what Car?
The a dealer should be able to cut a key for the 99 from the vin. The 85 on the other hand is a little more difficult cause if I remeber correctly GM only goes back to 88 with that program. So you would need a locksmith to make you a key or just buy a new key and lock cylinder and change the whole thing.

Sorry to make it confusing, the 85 Pontiac is what I need keys for, its a beater and it works for now, but I want to sell it soon so it would help if it had keys. The dealer said that they do not keep vins that far back and it would be too hard to do, I only went to one lock smith and he said to go to the dealer.

any decent locksmith would be your least expensive alternative

Just Buy and install a new lock cylinder set. They only run about $20.

if you take the lock cylinders out, some locksmiths will take the tumblers out of the cylinder and cut a key for your. Not sure about the ignition key though.

Where are you located? I know a couple of good locksmiths in SW michigan area that could do the job.

GM is awesome. Just go to the dealership and let them know you need a duplicate. My buddy locked himself out of his firebird and they gave him a new key for $3.00. I <3 GM!!!

Now Ford on the other hand...

Not only are their local dealerships are closed on Saturdays, but they only keep records for cars '98 and newer, my explorer being a '94. To top it off the police will not let you in your car, Locksmiths want $70+ to let you into your car, and tow guys want $40.

So basically if you lose your Ford keys you are SOL. Just my luck I lock mine in the truck to go yell at my bank people, just to come out and find out what I did, have to walk around in the bitter cold for like 2 hours while we try and find a Ford dealer that is open to help us.

Luckily, I have some great friends who are pretty sharp with opening up locked cars. So with the aid of a pile of coat hangers, some screwdrivers, and some persistence voila! I'm back in my truck and able to b*tch about the bank that gave me such a hassle.

You REALLY didn't read this thread did you? If you had you would have seen that it has already been said Multiple times GM can't do it on a car that old.

Just buy a new lock tumbler and key and install it yourself. Did it myself and it was easy.
