  • Third Gen Dash...

Does anyone know how to permanently fix a third gen dash? If you get a good used one, it's only a matter of time before it's cracked again. The 'carpet' overlays are a little ugly in my opinion. The caps that glue on to your exsisting dash are obvious and stick out. I don't mind spending money - just want it to last and look factory or better than factory. Any ideas are welcome.

I've heard the dash wipes are what dry them out and cause them to crack. Try getting 1 of those windshield deflectors as well for the sun when it's parked.

Yeah, I'm going to tint the windows to help keep interior heat down too. Just hope someone comes out with an aftermarket OER replacement sometime soon... hopefully at a reasonable price.

Keep it out of the sun is my only advice, other than that, I don't think there is any other solution. Mine is original to 1985 and has no cracks thankfully....knock on wood.

I had a perfect one that I traded an LU5 hood for. When I went to get it out of the car, my knee hit the corner edge of the pad and I cracked the crap out of it. Ebay has them on and off, but big $$ for real good ones and then who knows how brittle they are going to be. Plus I would really like a pad from an '82 or '83 since they are a little different. The edges on the 82-83 are squared off as opposed to the 84 -> that are all rounded off. I like the black interior, but the heat really builds in there. I'll find the optimum solution eventually.

Yeah, the outside corners of my dash pad are cracked, because of it getting hit (was cracked before I got it), but the rest is okay...for now...

Mine is still perfect and uncracked in my 87 IROC too KNOCK ON WOOD. I also had a 2nd one in perfect shape hanging in the garage until recently when a raccoon and knocked it off the wall and tore up a few other things. Needless to say there is one less raccoon in TR now.
