  • iron duke project

    started working on the 82 bird, its my dd until summer gets here but then i'm going to park it and make it nice for next winter

    heres the rundown...

    -complete 4th gen interior (charcoal leather) conversion, hopefully i'll be able to figure out how to swap the dash over, looks pretty tough though
    -4th gen rear springs/shocks/sway and rear end (disc) with 16" camaro 5spokes (spacers up front)
    -going to clear up the engine bay, no bs to show off the 4 gerbils
    -then i'm going to see if i can find some "high performance" parts for the iron duke (header, super duty techIV parts etc)

    also going to swap over the 4th gen electric fans/radiator/coolant resivoir, ill post up some pics of the progress tomorrow

    any other worthwhile 4th gen upgrades while i have the parts?

      yea i wouldnt be changing stuff around on that car, only fixing stuff. its already unique as it sits. You can probably buy new seats out of a junkyard.

      and honestly i think 4th gen 16s would look terrible.

          hmm, I think you are going about it all wrong if you want to keep a unique car.

          Another 4banger ripped to shreds it looks like. Makes the other ones out there even more unique/rare I guess

            i dont have the money to "restore" this car and the interior was unsafe

            the suspension is shot as well so i'm gonna use whats free to me

            anyways, nothing im doing will be irreverseable and im saving all the original parts

              On a side note....

              How refreshing it is to hear several people want to save a 4-banger F-body and preserve it.

              Don't know how many posts I've read about people just saying "scrap it" or "stick a V8 in it", and just never appreciate it for the oddball unique car that it is...

              And I thought I was the only crazy one...

                    It's neither glamorous nor fast, but it IS a unique part of F body history. That's why it should be kept stock and preserved. Everyone has already modded/trashed the majority of the 4 banger cars making them super rare and hard to find in complete and running condition.

                        we'll see then, i'm hoping to get my Z done by May

                        if not i still want to take it to the track anyways just to see how slow it is

                        the car was trashed more than thought when purchased

                        i mean everything but the dash and center console are trash

                        so its not like i killed a mint 4 banger, and besides i dont have the money to do a traditional restoration, not today at least if i still have it someday then yes it is restoreable

                          Well just make it driveable till your Z is done and then sell it to someone who has time/money to keep it stock.

                            do you want to buy it? lol

                            it will be a nice car when i'm done with it and if i still have it in 20 years and feel like making it stock then i can do so then

                            like i said i have all the original parts that are unique to this car (rear wiper, viscount seats, AC, etc)
