Gas tank replacement

I seem to have a hole on the filler neck on the gas tank.When ever I put gas in the car it leaks on the exhuast. At first it seemed to happen when I filled the tank, but now it leaks as soon as I began to put gas in the car. My question is can I replace just the filler or do I need to replace the tank also? If I have to replace the tank, do I have to drop the rearend?

Sure it's not your gas cap? I had a similar problem. Got a new cap and problem fixed.

but I had to get my gas tank replaced on my 94..and it cost a pretty penny to do.

It's rubber. I guess it has been replaced before.

Stock tanks are all steel and the neck is brazed to the tank, so you would have to replace the whole unit. Yes you have to drop the rear. If you replace it, use a 4th gen tank, they are plastic and fit right in without any mods.

I thought that only 99+ cars has plastic thanks. I know for a fact the 98's were still metal.

I can tell you this it's cheaper doing it yourself and it's not that hard to do. I have dropped rearends out before just time consuming is all.

Yeah, I'm not real sure what year they switched over, I only know that the late 4th gen's had plastic tanks.

I should swapped tanks when I got my fuel pump replaced...
