  • Purveyor of 3rd gen parts/Power Steering question

I made a trip to Mattawan last night to visit the purveyor of 3rd gen parts, Brandon. Brandon has 4 large pole barns full of 3rd gen parts so he has almost every part you could want. If you want his number, PM me.

Anyways, I took some old parts down to see how much they'd be worth to this guy and he ended up taking my parts and giving me $30 in exchange for a complete serpentine accs. drive, power steering rack, steering shaft, idler arm and a very nice center console!

So the question, the aluminum brackets that bolt to the motor, should I polish them or paint them satin black like the other steering stuff I'm putting back on? And does anyone want to buy a Flaming River manual steering rack? And has anyone messed with their power steering and knows any tricks?

Hmmmm.... Where in Mattawan?....... Theres a few things I need. Like a new quick ratio steering box. Mines a little sloppy. A serpentine system would be nice too. And maybe a headliner too if he had a good one.

    Oh and I'd Polish it.

60th Ave and VanKal rd. He has a lot of quick ratio steering boxes. I got a quick ratio from the guy at my work but it didn't have a pitman arm. Brandon sold me a slow ratio box with a pitman arm for $15 since the box wasn't in the greatest shape.

If I polish the brackets, would I need to polish or re-paint the alt/pwr steer pump/water pump etc?

Thanks, I wonder what he gets for a quick ratio box.

I guess you could do either. I would just freshen them up while they were off.

Edit: Moved this thread to the third gen forum.

Don't polish them. The castings are very complex and would take WAY too long to polish them right.....sure you could do it half-assed but......I'd hit them with black satin or better yet...powder coat them. I powder coated a set of those brackets for a motor I did for a guy and they looked awesome.

I don't want to powder coat them since I haven't really "spent" any money to do this yet. My thought was if I painted the brackets satin black, the chrome valve covers would look out of place and the supercharger bracket would stick out too. I could paint everything but I don't think it'd turn out nice. Just trying to keep the contrasting colors/finishes to a minimum.

              Check it out:

I have some 3rd gen parts available

I have quite a few body and interior dash parts from a 1988 formula. Hood, doors, rear glass, instruments, guages, some ground effects, rear bumper, more if anyone is interested, cheap.

Powder coating is so awesome. Check out this Car/engine I just did.
Consider powder over paint, better for the environment too!

That looks a ton better than my current ones. It also means I need another can of Pontiac Metallic Blue engine paint to get the water pump. The polished Weiand pump is the wrong rotation for the serp set up.

Who does powder coating around GR?

Magnum Powder coating on West river drive.

I did those brackets myself by borrowing a friends eastwood powder coat system.
