Ok, right now at my grandpa's dealership theres a 94 roadmaster with an lt1 for $1200. I was thinkiing about buying it for my 1990 bird. I need to know what things I would need to get in order to make the lt1 work. So if you could please list the things on here and not direct me to someother site you would be a great help.

Whoa! Small world! I'm also planning an LT1 swap using parts from a Roadmaster! I have a 1995 Roadmaster, and my Camaro is a 1994 with a 3.4 V6. From what I have gathered, you will need a set of headers, the PCM from the Roadmaster, the motor mounts for a LT1 Firebird/camaro, the transmission mount if you are also swapping the 4L60E into the Firebird from the Roadmaster. Another hint: You will want the heads off of a F-Body LT1, as they are aluminum, and the ones on the Roadmaster are cast iron. They are basically the same motors, just different heads and some internals. Help me out if I'm forgetting something, guys. . .Nick H.

you dont have to have the aluminum heads. Its just nice because they make more hp. you definetly need the computer and motor harness from the buick and the driveshaft might be a different length? I will think of more later i'm sure.sigpicAnd another thing.....when I gun the motor, I want the whole world to think it's coming to an end.

You can buy an aluminum 1-peice driveshaft for around $120-$150 shipped, I just bought one for $140, and it'll be here Thursday. If I'm not mistaken, your car has a steel 2-peice driveshaft? TA's right about the heads, that's why I suggested it. They also cut down the weight some too. Besides the headers, mounts, wiring harness, PCM, and a helluva lot of time and patience, you should be set!Nick H.

acctually his is a 3rd gen so it shoudl still haev the steal one piece drive shaft... but it shouldnt be to bad of a swap with a complete donor car its just alot of work... parts wise really you could toss it in engine and trans computer and all and have a nice v-8 car but your going to have to do alot more for upgrades when you add to it... then you would a car already with the v-8 like springs and what not...Originally posted by Frank The TankTook the restrictor plate off to give the Red Dragon a little more juice. It's really quite easy to swap a V8 into a V6 car if you have the entire donor car to rob parts from. The only things that will have to be bought, really, are the parts we mentioned above. I heard that the motor mounts may even be a direct bolt-on replacement, but I'm not sure. I'll see if I can find some more information for you. . .Nick H.

no not in the 3rd or 4th gen gotta move the mounts... really an easy way is just get the whole k member and pretty much front assembly outta a v-8 car already thats the main differance if you could find a intact one at the junkyard easy enough swap just drop the font end outta yours toss the v-8 front end in and bolt everything up... from then on its just wiring... but its still not going to fell or handle like a factory v-8Originally posted by Frank The TankTook the restrictor plate off to give the Red Dragon a little more juice. So the motor mounts from the Buick won't work in the Camaro? That sucks. . . Somebody said something about leaving the V6 coils in front to help launch, too. . . Is that true?Nick H.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here but no, you need and want to get V8 springs. The V6 springs are softer and won't be able to lift like the V8 ones that are stiffer. Also, with the V6 springs it will sit lower due to the extra weight of the V8 and tranny. Being softer, you run a bigger chance of bottoming out.Originally posted by 06camarodudeSo the motor mounts from the Buick won't work in the Camaro? That sucks. . . well it will be a nice ride "hight" lower car... probably wont bottom out but its not like getting the v-8 lowering spring which has the same spring rate just lower hight... like i said it wont feel or handle like a v-8 but it would be fine just a little more bounce to it... it will handle the extra weight of the motor but its going to wear out fasterOriginally posted by Frank The TankTook the restrictor plate off to give the Red Dragon a little more juice. I believe the meaning behind V6 springs up front is to have the spring to weak and it causes the front end to jump up transfering a lot of weight to the rear of the car.....basically its a redneck cheap thing to do...-08 G8 GT DD: Rotofab CAI, HID's, Breyton Race GTS'
