  • first painting project

Well I was cleaning my engine bay so my beastly v6 really stands out right, and I notcied by the hood latch theres some rust forming underneath the paint and some way to the right. So I sanded if off and I bought some primer. Can anyone tell me where to go from there. I'm just repainting that front part and I don't know what grit to use or what i should use to paint it. Any advice would really help.

Use like 180 grit to get the paint off, and then use like a 350 grit from there, spray the primer (self-etching, right?) and then wip[e the dry primer off with a cheesecloth or something, and spray the paint over that.

I just sanded with rough grit sandpaper until I saw metal, then bondo'd to level off whatever the rust ate away, then wetsanded with 1000 grit so it'd be nice and smooth, then primered two coats, wet sanded with 1000 grit, then sprayed two coats of red.

When I said "wipe the dry primer off . . .", I meant to wait until the primer is dry, then clean off the fresh surface and then spray the paint over it. I would just use spraypaint lol.
