  • Updating 2nd Gen Bird Gauges

I'm bored so I thought I'd post alittle info about a mod I plan on doing down the road. Replacing the stock gauges with aftermarket ones. The speedo and the tach/clock/big idiot gauge are 4". So you will need to enlarge them to a 5" hole or make some kind of filler panel if you plan on going with a smaller gauge. There are a few 4" aftermarket gauges out there, but they do not look that good IMO. The rest of the gauges are 2 1/16". If you get a dash bezel from a car that had Air Conditioning you can use the 2 vent holes to put 2 more gauges in, or you can drill 2 1/16" holes in your plain dash bezel.

Here's some pics I found. The last gauge is cut out of this pic.

It's also cut out of this one. It's cut out b/c it's empty. This bezel just has all the stock type gauges in it.

Yeah I'd like to do it over winter, but it's a pretty pricey mod. Over $500 so I'm gonna do some other mods before that one.

looks cool, but a lotta dough for something that's not really 100% necessary, well atleast i hardly look at my gauges just the tach everyonce in a while....

that would be pretty sweet looking in your car though!

I agree w/ Matt. No real need for it, but it's your money so rock it if you want. It would deffinately give a cooler look to the interior IMO.

I could use them b/c my gas gauge and my battery (batt doesn't matter too much) don't work. My tach is mounted under the dash so it looks kind of dumb, and I bump into it with my leg. Oil pressure and Water Temp are just sitting on my console.

Prolly just gonna replace my clock (which is broken) with a factory tach/clock combo. Gas gauge and battery have wiring problems I believe, so should be able to fix those. Do the cheap route for now.

Basically I just felt like doing a tech write up for all the 2nd gen guys. I think we have a whopping 5 or 6 guys now.

Done right, those can look really, really good.

My preference would be the black faced Autometer gauges, but that's just me.

I like them alot !! .................. Different gauges look better on some cars than others. It depends on the look that your looking for & how much money you want to spend. To me,keep it simple and youl'll have money left over for something else....
