Last year I did the springs, shocks, wheels, tires, brakes, and did the carb rebuild. This year, time to tackle that rather sickly red interior. Bleah.
Got most of it pulled out over the weekend, about the only thing left is the dashboard and the front seats. Found just a TINT bit of surface rust under the scuff plates, more rust powder than anything. Other than that, no surprises so far. The interior plastics are absolutely trashed, I will need to source all of the T-top trim plastics now. I have just about everything else I need for the swap.
The interior is NOT going to be stock, since the car already has so many mods to it, I figured whats the point? Going with a tan/black two tone setup, should be really sharp. Here are some pics of the tear down so far:
dust.jpgstart.jpgShes a little bit dusty still from storage, but here is what I started with.
door.jpgPulled the door panels off first. Everything looks ok behind there, no rust or damage. But whats with the masking tape?
headliner.jpgFinished pulling the headliner down next. Had to order new backing, the old cardboard shrunk a good inch and a half! No saving that.
clip.jpgy.jpgFound lots of this. Old, decaying, powdery plastics. Need to source replacements for these, whether I go part searching or just pony up the cash for repops.
I'll throw up pics of the back seat teardown later tonight. The seats are in surprisingly good condition, foam looks really good. The only part I haven't figured out how to remove yet is the package tray and the metal molding piece that runs between it and the back window. I'll tackle that tonight...
After I pull a ton of parts off that 2000 im parting out.
