  • Body part compatibility? '79 T/A vs. '80 Berlietta?

    Long story short-

The floor and rear subframe are completely rotted in the '79 T/A. Project I have been working on for a few months.

The parts car, the '80 Camaro Berlinetta, is nice, but is missing the doors, front clip, hood, tailights and interior including dash.

Can I use the doors, front clip, hood, tailights, interior and dash from the T/A and rebuild the Camaro?

I dont think I have the skill or the knowldge to pull off cutting out the floor and swapping subframes, and have it done well and correct.

Any help/info is appreciated. This sucks.....

I'd search southern states for a shell and cut your losses with the current, I don't think the the parts will swap over.

Looks like my project is saved. I was afraid for a bit I was going to end up scrapping it all.

          Thanks.

Looks like its back to sanding.....all over again, on the other car.

Correct, the camaro has a body line at the bottom the firebirds do not. You will also see a difference in the tail light panel. I don't believe the bird tail lights will bolt into the camaro shell.

Besides the body line at the bottom of the door, fender and 1/4 panel the body line in the center of the door is sharp on the Camaro and rounded on the Firebird. You can cut the metal off the camaro and install on the Firebird from the underbody.

Cutting out the entire floor is your best bet. Or, they do make replacement rails at $145 each, new trunk floor for $125, full left and right floor pans for $85 each, and quarter panels for $100 bucks each side.

Or you can search the southern states for a shell an not worry about any of that I saw a rust free straight shell a while back for $500

I was going to use a firebird body for a 78' z28 i used to have so i researched this heavily. The door skins are different like the other users said, they have a line on the bottom of the door for a Camaro. Also the quarters, tail panel, trunk drop offs are different as well. I'm not 100% sure but I think even the door striker latch area on the B pllar may be a little differnet as well. It a ton of work to do the switch from the research I've done. Using a firebird body would be much easier on you.
