  • Any 2nd Gen T/A owners ... need some help with the Shaker set-up

A friend of mine just picked up a 1977 T/A with the 400 Pontiac engine. He has the shaker scoop, but the intake / carb / air-cleaner are all 2bbl. Obviously, he wants to switch to a 4bbl set-up. Just need some suggestions for parts, that are known to work, to keep the shaker functional & allow the hood to close correctly. I've owned 3 different 2nd gen Camaros, but never had the pleasure to own a 2nd gen T/A. I'm kind of limited on what knowledge I can offer him, but figured somebody on here might be able to help.

Shouldn't you be able to change out the intake and carb and have the baseplate still fit the 4 bbl carb opening? I believe that 2 bbls had the same size opening as the 4 bbls, just in a 2 bbl setup (5 1/4" or something like that).

He just picked up an air-cleaner assembly & a Quadrajet to re-build, plus he's going to get an original 400 intake manifold. I was thinking he was trying to find aftermarket stuff that was known to fit/ work with the shaker. Been trying to get him to join this site, since he has a '97 Formula & now a '77 T/A. Think he may, soon

all shaker base are the same as noted i had many of the 2ng gens and i had issues when i use a aftermarket high rise intakes that the shaker doesnt fit too good it bends the base down on the carb and or bends the hood and it can be a pain so i would use a early modle intake from a gto or a firebird it will be better than any after 77
