  • What to look for in 2nd gens

I'm just curious...what are the biggest things to look at in a second gen.

Do I recall correctly that the rear upper shock mounts have a bad habit of rusting out?

Yes, almost every one that I've seen do. You can fix that problem though with the right tools.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe...it's a bunch of things that would have to be worked out, but it's a distinct possibility.

                yuppers......

Rear leaf springs, where they mount to the rear and the front. Possibly take out the bottom part of the rear seat and look for rot spots.
Underneath the rear bumper there is supposed to be a metal piece that sticks down. Not sure how to describe it.
Both my 78 and my 79...they were both gone. I just made sure I rust proofed and undercoated it really well.

On my 79, I did have to change out the rear leaf springs and clean up the area a little.
Also the frame bushings, I had to replace the bolts and the rubber bushings on both of my camaros.
If you look under the driver / passengers side doors and see where the frame connects to the floor.....that's what I'm talking about.
Sorry if I'm not using the prover terms.

I don't think that would be rust on the front nose (clip?). Those are plastic. Honestly, it would be hard to say, especially given my recent wins with mine. Has there been any work done to the motor? Are the numbers matching? It's kind of open to interpretation as the description sits.
