  • My work on the 79 z28- motor in progress

Hi I just wanted to let all of you camaro guys know that this is a motor that I pulled out of a rally sport. We bought it off of craigslist. I think it was a great buy! The guy that we bought it from was in a hurry to move to FL so he sold me a 80 sports rally and my black 81 that I'm currently driving. I discovered the transmission was just rebuilt (but taking it to get a check on just in case at the transmission shop). My husband dropped the pan and found out this is a 4 bolt motor! He was hoping it would be. Just to know what we got. Yes, we also have the 79z (in the picture to the left on my avatar). The motor in these pictures is what we plan on putting in my 79z. I currently have my 79z at the frame shop getting the body restored and then taking the motor out of the 79z and putting this motor in it after it's painted.
Again, I just thought I would post it for all mifbody fans to see. I will post up more later when I get to go see my 79z in a couple days.

          Updated 79z28 progress

I just wanted to share more pictures with you on some progress we've been making on the 79z. In the meantime my husband has also grinded, sealed, and pulled a motor out of a 80rs camaro, and working on my daughters 80 t-top camaro. We also had the 79z to the frame shop. I think it's great progress for as much work he has been doing. I hope you enjoy these pictures. The motor (orange) is going in the 79z. The blue one is going into the 80rs. Yeah swapping motors, but they both are 350.

It's looking fantastic. Damn, all these '79s are playing on my wanting to get mine going again. Anyway, is that POR 15 on the front frame? The tall valve covers are evident of roller rockers (nice choice, by the way). I had tied my frame when I was building mine and was very impressed at it's stance and handling. It may be a good option while she's in her current state. Can't wait to see her done. Looking great!

Why the Hell do I have to press 1 for english?!

I don't know all the mechanical lingo, sorry. Can you give me a little bit more description of POR 15 and tied frame means? Then maybe I can answer your question and get back with you on that. Thanks for the compliments!!! oH by the way my husband sprayed the bare metal primer yesterday. I will have to get more pictures up again soon. We have to get some more work done by the frame guy again (problem with the doors). Next week plan on starting the motor transplant, lol.

Sorry. Tying the frame means to throw sub-frame connectors on it to connect the front and rear subframes (preferably welded, but bolted works too). This will also give the car more rigidity and if the motor wraps up and hooks well, it'll keep the body more straight and perhaps save the windshield and lateral movement (no dog tracking or front wheel lifted on one side). All in all, it just feels a LOT more stable and solid when driving. POR 15 is a paint, well, it's a super TOUGH paint that is used to coat areas under the car (or wherever you need) that will seal the metal and protect with an iron glove, of sorts. When I re-did the floor on the 4th gen I have, I used it on the underside of the floor and in the enigne bay. I ended up getting a pint, so the pint covered the whole underside, then the engine bay and I still had a half-pint left. It goes a LOOONNNGG way. Basically, throwing ideas in order to make this project last as long as humanly possible, when its back together.

I will have you know, by the way, after looking at the pictures and having them send me back in time when I was doing my '79 up, I'm feeling pretty good about mine probably running again this weekend. Putting a mini-starter, new + battery cable, plugs and making sure the sidewinders are all complete (no critter marks). Truthfully, I can't wait to hear the roar again and probably blast a ton of bees through the back of the garage. LOL!

                              Hi Steddy,
Thank you for informing us of what Por15 and tied frame meant. No, we didn't have the frame tied. We had the rear frame, trunk pan welded, and new floor pan welded. We used chassis saver paint for whole frame. That's good to hear about yours put together again. We have quite a bit left to do on are z28- motor in it, paint, and interior still left. I will post up more pics soon when we get more accomplished on the restoration.
