  • second gen good buy???

i found a second gen that seems good. but i figure i will ask the experts first.

1974 firebird formula. 400ci 4 speed trans. clean car. has a little surface rust on the rear querter and a couple pin holes in the trunk. runs and drives great. all lights and guages work. glass is good and interior is great.
front bumper looks a little messed up.

    HE'S ONLY ASKING 2500$ OBO.

he say's first person with cash takes it. very negotionable.

is it a good buy???? i was gonna try to get it for 1,800-2,000$

sounds like it definitely needs work but if you have the time and money to put into it i think it would be awesome! i love those formula hoods.

It's beautiful, man. Only thing, I'd get on the quarters fast. The metal there is real thin and tends to fall apart fast. It does look like a great start though.

If it's got pin holes in the trunk, check the rear subframe...and see if you can get underneath the carpet too...trunk and seat pans are cheap, but if the structure is damaged, this will be an expensive resto...if it's not completely toast, it's very well bought at $2000.

Only 14,461 built, I'd guess that 1/3 or less are 4-speeds...this car fully restored (#2 condition) probably brings low 20s right now, but is definitely on the upswing...keep restoration to $15K or less, and you have a money maker...

definitely a rare car by todays stds - you dont see many 74's running around at all let alone formula 4spds

as jeffs said check the subframe and floorboards over really well

beyond that and depending on how bad it is - i still may say buy if under 2k

hell at that price - you could just enjoy it and nurse as fun driver and beater rat rod

                  Very highly sought after car!
I don't think you could go wrong at that price.

thats what i was thinking. i was gonna get it for the summer and do some work. patch trunk. and sand and fix the quarters. then just have fun for the summer. maybe get it repainted. i could probably sell it for 2k when i leave just to get the money out of it.

so you guys think its a good buy?

its about 3 1/2 hours away. so its a drive to buy car. im gonna try to get more pics of the rust, interior, and motor. ill post them later if i get any.

im not looking to restore it. im only 17. but i really wanna enjoy a classic muscle car. even though its a mid 70's smog car. the 400's still came with 225hp and 320ftq. so it should still be a fun car.

Yep...you won't lose money on it...as long as it's structurally sound...
