  • Unwanted Weight Reduction

As some of you may know, this winter I started changing my interior from sun faded Camel to Gloss Black. The change is nearing completion. Ordered carpet and headliner material today. However when I removed the old carpet, it seemed to show some signs that it was driven in the winter at one point of it's life.

Definitely not a good thing. . . Rusted floorpans can be replaced with stamped aftermarket items rather easily though. . . Less than $200 for both sides, front and back. Let us know how it works out for you!

I'm not so sure. It seems entirely where the floor mats were. Probably where all those sodas were spilled, along with salted nuts and cashews, salty french fries. Looks rusted from the inside only, but that's what decades without cleaning will do for ya.
Unless you find someplace other than the footwells, I'd think it was winter-virgin.

I agree...it's too localized for being driven a couple of winters. The rest of the floorboards look great.

I'd guess it was a car that sat outside and had a windshield and/or a T-top leak.

                How do the A-pillars look?

i agree, the '68 coronet my cousin bought was stored since the early 70s and it was rusted out similarly there. i doubt that car ever saw winter either.

Yeah Jen's dad had to do the smae thing with one of his 60's T-birds. He replaced the whole interior floor. Never made it seem like it was a complicated job and for a man goin on his 70's that saying something.

No T-Tops so it wasn't from that. A-Pillars looked good, I mean alittle surface rust but over 25 years of Michigan weather can do that. So doubt it's the windshield. Reason I said it looked like it saw winter, was because it looked like someone got in it with wet shoes alot. Cuz the holes are under your feet. Also the "feet spot" behind the Driver has some surface rust. Underside does not look the greatest, alot of surface rust. But yeah it might not of been driven in the winter, I don't know. Next winter when I get some money saved up I'll take care of the all the rust I find.

Anyways I was thinking about getting new floor plans, but don't really have the cash for that. Also I heard it's a pretty hard job to do. The front part is the only bad spot, so I'll just patch them. Hoping to do that this weekend. Actually I'm gonna have my dad do it, since he's a way better welder than I am.

I think the hard part is getting the cancer completely cut out and prepping for a good weld. A number of companies make drop in floorboard portions.

Looks like you can get the pair for $161 from Year One, and they're generally one of the more costlier suppliers.

That likely is $160 more then what Jeremy has. He just used up most of his funds on carpet and headliner.

The drop in floor panels aren't as big as they could be. They dont fully go to the sides or the firewall. I would hate to spend $161 on a pair of front floor panels and still have to rig something up for the sides. What I'm going to is use is two 1' sections on each side. Then trim on the side what needs to be trimmed and go back as far as I need. It won't have all the curves and dips as original, but at least it will be solid. New floor panels would be nice, but patching it will be completely free. Shorter front panels would be nice, current front panel peices go all the way behind the seat mounts.

Like I said, sounds rusted from the inside. The driver's feet spot is where all the cashews and fries got crushed and ground up by the feet/heel, providing finer salting of the area. Same behind the driver, that's where other fries and peanuts that the driver dropped go to - behind him, and then get crushed as well, by rear passengers. Add in spilled drinks, acidic juices, etc. + decades without complete cleaning = rust.
