  • 2.8 V6 in a 2nd gen

Is this pretty much a completly custom swap? 3rd gen 2.8 V6 into a 78-81 trans am. Would a 3rd gen v6 kmember fit into a 2nd gen or would it need to be custom?

I'm thinking about this because i have some cheap roller 2nd gens available to me and know of some cheap 2.8 w/ auto drivetrains

With enough time and money anything is possible but honestly a 2.8 is a waste of time. That's like building a drag car with an ecotec! If you want to toss something in one of those 2nd gens I have a TBI 350 for $100

*edit - sorry it was late and I worded it wrong*

$100? Damn thats a good deal...if he'll sell me a whole car think your hands could get ahold of that and pass it along to me? lol

But i mean what's the most it would need? I'd have the engine, trans, etc...i don't think i would need to pay for much, my dad can weld things for me...

so there are major differences in the way 2nd gen engines and 3rd gens are setup?

maybe i need to do some searching eh?

How much horse power is it?? I may take that if it's the right motor.

The first Gen started it all!!!

It put down 292hp to the rear wheels in the C10 it was in. So I'm guessing 350hp at the crank? The motor does have a cracked ring but in all honestly it isn't that hard of a fix since the engine is already on a stand in my barn. The motor still runs just fine, just a lot of smoke and burning oil. Hey, what did I think I was getting for $100?

Yeah, I can't see the 2.8L idea really being worth it. Maybe if you turbo'd it, but even then.

              Totally agree.
Even a 305 TBI would be better than the 2.8L unless you had a Turbo already on it.

Seems like you would actually lower the value of a roller 2nd Gen by putting in a 2.8L. I know personally if I was looking at buying a 2nd gen I would rather have no engine in it, than a 2.8L I would have to remove just to put something better in it.

              Just a thought.
