I just bought a 94 pontiac trans am with the lt1 about a month ago and it was running good a little rough but good so i did some spark plugs and and oil change and it ran really good until that night, then it started running really rich and dogging out like crazy and it felt like it was missing a little bit to. So i replaced my cap and rotor because that opti spark is known for going bad so i did that put everything back together and i just went for a test drive and it still doing it but now it backfires too. Any other ideas on what might cause this or have any of you had similar problems? i want my car back and running good. Thanks

I'll go with O2 sensors.Originally posted by Redd8407I WANT NOISE! SPEED! AN ENGINE THAT SHAKES MY INTERNAL ORGANS LIKE THEY GOT PARKINSON'S! It is possible you had some carbon build-up in your cylinders. I discovered I had that on my old S-10. Ran OK when I got it. Changed plugs/wires and the better spark suddenly seemed to be cleaning it out and it kept backfiring, etc until it cleaned all that crap out. After that it was fine. But at one point it blew one of my plugs in two! Yikes. My Toys: Hugger Orange 1999 Z28 6-Spd Twin Turbo

just replaced plugs, wires and distributor cap and rotor and so soon as i finished and started it up it still ran bad. so its not any one of those three. Could it be my actual distributor causing the problem?

Those opti's are junk. I doubt the O2's are going to make it run that bad.
Has it ever ran good since you have had it?
Did it gradually get bad or all of a sudden?

it ran good but rough when i got it i replaced plugs and it ran really good for a few hours then it started running really bad. the old spark plugs were gaped at .30 thousands so i set the new ones at .50 like they are supposed to be. my friend hooked it up to his obd 1 scanner last night and said my o2s are reading fine but my injectors are staying open 3 mili seconds too long i guess they are supposed to be around 2 and mine are at about 5 so it is running very rich its hardly burning any fuel. would that be my opti being faulty and not getting a strong enough spark?
