Of course you're all about straight line performance! It's American made, it can't handle.

    /sarcasm

Thank you for the link, Daytona. Sadly, that used the 3G turd, but I'm sure if I look around some, I can find one on the 2G.

Couple other questions - how is the steering and brakes? Does it have a loose, detached feeling? Or when you twinge the wheel, the tires move? And the brakes, are they nice and crisp, or are they kinda spongy.

If you can compare them to a 2001 Grand Prix, 2006 Pontiac Solstice, and 2007 Pontiac G5, I would appreciate it (these are the cars that I have GM experience with). All have been nice, except the suspension isn't...confident. It seems to be able to handle what you throw at it, but it isn't 100% sure of itself.

    Thanks again for the information!

Wait a minute...I thought you were looking for 4th gen stuff? The info there is for 4th gen stuff.

3rd gen and 2nd gen stuff are COMPLETELY different animals...not sure if I have enough room to explain all the differences between them.

But if you want to compare a 4th gen to your vehicle list, these would be my observations:

2001 Grand Prix - I would not even classify this as a performance vehicle, and I've had 3 supercharged GTPs. Great in a straight line, can't turn to save it's life (front wheel drive). A V8 powered 4th gen will walk this car in all performance aspects.

2006 Solstice - Again, unless you're talking the GXP, I don't see this as a performance car, although it will go through the twisties better than a 4th gen. But that one marginal advantage is quickly destroyed by losing out on 100 hp. You'd have to invest in a Stage II kit for the GXP to begin to have a similar car performance wise.

2007 G5 - Not even in the same class. Will do nothing better than a 4th gen except for possibly having more reliable window motors.

Again, those are just my opinions, and I'm referring to a stock 4th gen.

The modification option list is nearly limitless.

I am. Sorry, I meant 3G Eclipse. Should have clarified.

Even for LT1s? The impression I got from a couple other threads is that it is somewhat limited, as the market is "catching up."

The Solstice seemed to have the most confident suspension (at about 2500 miles), and it seemed to go where I wanted it to alright. I only got to drive it for a couple miles, and didn't get to push it (53 year old women owner/passenger ftl).

Also, stock fourth gen information is what I am after.

4th gen camaros are definitely the "twinge and you go into a ditch" tight steering lol.

Sorry, dude, I would have no idea where to look for 3G Eclipse stuff.

Nice cars...just not my cup of tea.

LT1s are fine motors...nothing wrong with 'em (some will, I'm sure, dispute this ). They'll be 50-70 hp less than a LS1, but c'mon, it's a small block Chevy...it's easily surmounted. It's easy (and relatively cheap) to find 50 hp out of these motors.

But apples-to-apples, stock-to-stock, the LS1 will outperform it.

We slap eachother in the DSM community for such statements.
The 1G and 2G are pretty much the only ones worthwhile from a performance perspective.

I will find some 2G stuff (what I drive) just to compare numbers. Hopefully I can buy one as soon as this summer...

In a word they are just "catching Up" considering the just came out with a new Air Gap LT-1 Intake and the Opti has just been slamed with new and better Opti's from MSD, Accel, Summit and more.

As for Cylinder heads AFR has made the best for years and Trick Flow had had thier set out for about 2-3 yrs.
I think Eddelbrock just came out with a new LT-1 head also??

Everything else has been out there for a while like Hooker, Comp, Crane, Eagle, TPIS and more.

As far as handeling my car does great and the steering is responsive but what I like and you like might be different.

Breaks: Put some Cross Drilled & Sloted roters on there with some good pads and you will stop better than any thing on the street

What does the new one put out? Something like 261 hp?

That's not bad, and it's a relatively light car, but the FWD hurts it for overall performance.

They don't make the AWD ones anymore, I don't think...

The 3G sucks. "Top" model makes 210hp out of 3.0L of V6ness. This is also (I believe) in a convertible, meaning more weight. That particular engine has a compression ratio of 10.0:1, so no forced induction (easily) there.

The 4G, however, seems to be ok. 263hp out of a 3.8L V6 (GT). However, with a 10.5:1 compression ratio, forced induction is pretty much out. The I4 version makes 162hp out of 2.4L (GS).

You're correct, no AWD version. Thought they have a Ralliart Concept. Seems pretty cool. If you want AWD with the 4g63t (engine in 1G and 2Gs), pick up an Evo .

Now, if you didn't want that, my apologies. Figured you were helpin me out .

Nik, I don't hate any car...just 'cause I wouldn't buy one means I don't appreciate another internally combusted conveyance .

I just love cars, no matter what they are. Some of my more morbid dreams include finding a diesel Chevette for a DD and taking a newer Buick Roadmaster woody wagon, prostreeting it, and dropping in a 572.

And in reference to braking, bone stock 60-0, a 4th gen F-body does it in 116 feet. In the article I referenced above, that puts in a first place tie with a Celica GT-S.

Do the upgrades that Phantom383 noted, and you're into Porsche territory.

Go on a weight loss program and lose some stuff, hey, how much of a race car do you want to build?

As do I. Hence why I am here. But, you guys are selling an F-body to me quite well...

Well, that doesn't sound bad at all. Sounds quite good, actually. What is curb weight? Just out of curiosity.

Are the brakes loose, or do you tap them and eat steering wheel? Squishy at all?

Curb weight is 3323 (pssst...it's in that article...I'm just razzin' ya ).

Now I don't have a 4th gen, but when I've driven them, brakes didn't seem twitchy, well moderated, you want the ABS to kick in, just stand on it and she will nose over.

                          Nothing seemed out of place.

But maybe one of the 4th gen guys can chime in for more info.

Bang for the buck, Fbodies are hard to beat.

NIk, the stock breaks are good and they do a good job.
With good matinace they stay good.
The front's go before the rear on our cars, at least mine do.

You will have to redo the breaks and replace the roters at some point and if you are doing any pwr upgrades to the car good breaks and roters to stop that pwr is what a responsible person would/should do.

I have the Rotors that I sugjested and some of the best breaks I can buy on my car, my life is worth it.
