  • Started The Cam Install...

Well, i was bored and i cant have car parts sitting around for to long. I have to get them installed! So i figured yesterday was as good as ever to get started. Everything went pretty well, i got the radiator out, all the tubing off, the water pump off. I went to go break loose the crank bolt on the pulley....ummmm yea..having a busted rear end dosent really help that much The rear end wouldnt hold it in gear to break the bolt loose. I called it a night after that and figured id go start messing with that today. I think what im gonna do, seeing how the rears getting pulled anyways. Im gonna put a monkey wrench or something on the yolk of the rear and hold it in place with the car and break the bolt loose. Gonna give that a try. Fun times!!

No sir. The springs and pushrods are already installed. I have the lifter tool, so the heads will stay put.

Dont you have an air impact? Mine came off pretty easy with that.

Best of luck with the install!!

Dependant on you being an A4 of M6 you can hold the crank from turning at the trans. With an A4 just stick a wrench onto one of the flywheel bolts. Same w/ the M6. All you have to do is lock the flywheel from turning somehow.

yea, matt(ss4matt) Said the same thing. It just sounds like more of a pain then anything. That gets me nervous, ****ing up the flywheel or something. Im gonna try to just clamp a wrench on the yolk of the rear...let it hit the bottom of the car and then try to crack that bolt loose.

I would use an impact, but my air compressor dosent seem to have enough to use a high impact wrench.

Actually i dont have a camera or camcorder, im going to try to find one so i can post a vid of it starting up.

if theres enough clearance in the u-joints you could try sticking a bigass screwdriver in one of them. idk how much torque is there though, id only do that if you just need something to hold it pretty much.

I don't see how you cound mess up the flywheel. All you do is put a wrench on the bolt thru the the window by the starter? Might do less damage that way then prying a screwdriver into the rearend?

well as i said, this was brought up as an option. I just didnt get under and look at what its gonna take to get to the starter and all that. I have long tube headers and a 3" ory, so its all about whats gonna be more accesible.

I wouldnt be prying a screwdriver on the rear end. But as far as im concerned, if i break something on the rear, i wouldnt care cuz im pulling it out and throwing a 9" in. So we'll see what happens when i get under it today.

Could someone post a pic of this lifter tool on the car? I think I know what it looks like but I'm not 100% sure. I've always done cams when rebuilding a motor or takign off the heads. I wanna see how this lil' guy works. I can't picture it in my head cause I can only think of a SBC and unless its like magnets or somethign I dont know how it would work.
