please don't use 3.23s...if it is auto at least go 3.42s. 3.23s are no upgrade for you. 3.42s you are going to enjoy the most and they work perfect for cruising and racing. You can get 3.42s all the time on sites.

The 2.73 was stock for the base LS1 but the WS6 got the 3.23. The Firehawk i think got the 3.23 as well.

As for the 3.42 instead of a 3.23... there is not a lot of difference there. If you want more than the 3.23 then go for a 3.73 with an auto.

          FWIW the M6 came with a 3.42.

Also, if it is a new gear you are putting in you may want to consider rebuilding. What I mean is changing the bearings and seals and if you are gonna swap for a new and stronger girdle, now is the time.

Then after you install the gears be sure to break them in.

As to a programmer... I do not have one. If you do the gear yourself you will need to find someone with LS1 edit or HP programmer or something similiar to program your car. And you will not be able to use someone else's HPP3 since it is coded for one car only.

If you want more info on gears and how it will effect your shift points and such I have included a link that may help you or someone else.

          Hope this helps some.

my 93 3.4L came with a 3.23 open stock. the 3.8's came with a 3.08 stock depending ont he transmission

the lt1 had a 2.73 gear with the automatics. unless u had the ws6 or firehawk package. the manuals all came with 3.42's

most manuals came with a 3.42 rear gear to match up with the Tremec 6 speed.

have to look for a GU# code on your door depending on the number that will tell you your gears

I just put a set of SLP/AAM 3.73's in my 98 SS...what a freakin HUGE difference! i also went with the SLP/Motive install kit. a guy named scott from Driveline Solutions installed it for me. he only charged me $125 for the labor! (i had already removed the rear end from the car and taken it to him) i recommend him to anyone. he does great work. i think his website is www.driveline-solutions.com don't mess around with the 3.42's in my opinion, if your gonna go for it...go with 3.73's at least. or go all out with the 4.10. but i've heard bad things about 4.10's? anyways, that's just my 2 cents!

ha just bring it to me! I can do gear swaps. Me and my brother have the tools and stuff. Anyways I got a set of 3.73s in mine and the difference was astounding! I didn't get to run it on the track yet though.
