  • Needing some help with my "new to me" '96 WS6

Hey guys! At the end of last season I purchased a 1996 WS6 from a guy in Ohio. It's a super-clean car with a number of things done to it. Namely a custom grind comp cam (48-254/111 w/ .552/.571 lift)LS7 lifters, stainless roller rockers, valve springs, hardened push rods, Wallbro 255 pump, Aeromotive filter and regulator, Bosch 30# injectors, stainless long tube headers with ORY and 3" polished stainless Magnaflow cutback. The guy also deleted all the emissions stuff (AIR, EGR, EVAP, etc) and it was tuned by Solomon. It runs great, but I noticed I was getting really bad gas mileage (10-11mpg). I could tell it was running rich by the smell and a bit of smoke out of the tails, so I took some readings and the long term fuel trims are really high on the passenger side ONLY AT IDLE (when the car is idling in neutral or if I put the 6-speed in neutral and coast on the street). Otherwise, it is pretty good.

I've replaced the O2 sensors, checked for vacuum and exhaust leaks, etc and am just at a bit of a loss. When I first got it I only drove it a couple hundred miles before putting it away before winter, during which time I put a new clutch in it.

Now, I did not grow up working on cars, but I'm slowly learning the ropes. I'm no mechanic, but I can do most stuff with direction. I'm just not sure what to look for next. I'm not disappointed with the way the car is running, but I don't really want to be getting 10mpg either (especially when the car is tuned for 93 octane or higher)!

So, any thoughts for me? What do I need to be looking for?

Thanks for any advice you can share with this newcomer would be so appreciated!

Maybe its just "fat" in the tune... ur looking for something wrong with the car when all it may need is to be leaned out in the tune.

What gears and what trans btw?

    LTXtech.com IS my drug...

Hmm, that's true. The tuner seemed to think it was a classic vacuum/exhaust leak with it running lean on one bank only (therefore dumping extra fuel and running rich).

      The gears are 3.42 and it's a 6-speed.
