  • Rear Axel + gears

I need to have my Rear Axel rebuilt. I have a 1996 WS-6 Trans Am. Auto trans, car is stock, and I believe 373 gears. Any shop recommendations would be appreciated. Also if I'm wrong on the gear ratio please let me know. And any input on whether or not to change gear ratio. Right now the car launch's great but the rear end is just so loud I know somethings wrong and would like to get it repaired before.....bad things happen.

    Thanks for your time

I was reading on a couple forums and thought this was a post of a 4th gen rear end setup for sale lol.. obviously not the right thread lol

What kind of noises are we talking? you might just need them adjusted.

had mine done at DTE in Warren near 696 and M-97. You should have 3.23 gears if its stock. Stepping up to 3.42 or 3.73 would be doable if the ring and pinion are junk and need replacing. I have 3.73 in mine and its a nice all around gear. runs about 2350rpm at 70mph on the freeway. If you do change gear ratio you will need the tune changed so your speedo will be correct.
When in doubt, Whip it out !
