Anyone on here put a 99-02 plastic fuel tank in an LT1 car?
John. Just a thought. While I like the charcoal canister integration on the plastic tank. The fuel pail is problematic with after market pumps. The factory sender uses a venturi pump that is run off of fuel presure that is provided by the fuel pump through a small secondary output nipple. After market performance pumps dont have this provision. So you have to open up the check valves at the bottom of the sender pail to allow enough fuel into it to provide enough fuel for an after market pump. Without the check valves in place you run the risk, in a low fuel situation, of running the fuel pump dry in a hard corner or hard acceleration due to fuel slosh. The plastic fuel tank has no baffles in it. That is why they use the sender pail/venturi pump.
That being said,I am running a walboro in a plastic tank on my Firebird build. Im not happy about the above compromises I was forced to make but thats what I had to do to make it work.

From what you said, would I be better off to just use a steel tank with my racetronix kit?
I believe the pump is a Walboro 255 as well
I wouldnt shy away from a steel tank if it in good shape, easier install. Also, the sender for the guage on the plastic tank is different than the earlier style. Different resistance values. Not to mention all the extra sensors in the later style sender. Way easier to just keep the steel tank and swap in the new pump.
The earlier analog style sender 93 through 97 use 3 wires. 98 to 02 use like 12 wires. The guage sender and pump use seperate grounds and they want to be grounded in the pcm. On the analog system there is no provision for that. You can combine the grounds but the sender wont run the fuel guage. So its not just the tank, its the sending units also.

I think I'll just keep my steel tank. I didn't know I could buy a replacement filler neck for it, the flap in my old one broke and is somewhere in the tank now.
