  • Need rear brake line help. 96 z28

I noticed my rear brake line leaking the other night while doing some work under the car. The only thing I've done with brakes is change pads and rotors. They are definitely not my strong point with cars. I was having trouble following the lines with the car on stands. But as you can see in the pics, the leak is just on the drivers side line. Looks like maybe a pin hole developed but my back brakes are gone and my pedal goes to the floor. Question is:
is that just a replaceable section or do I need to replace the line all the way to the master cylinder? It looked like it might run to a "T". Can someone educate me on what needs done? Thanks a million

I don't see any reason you could not put a repair piece in there, if:

    1) The rest of the line is sound, and worth saving.
    2) There is enough length of straight there in which to put a splice/patch (appears to be).

you can fix this easy. You will need a tubing bender and a flaring tool. A piece of brake line too. I would just replace the whole line from caliper to junction block. Bleed em. Done.

Edit; another way to go. Go to the pick and pull. Get a factory line. Replace the whole thing. You can find decent condition lines if you look. At worst, its agood.excuse to go to the pick and pull.

Yeah the whole car could use some new lines. I was considering buying some pre-bent lines online, I've just never messed with brake lines. I was hoping I could just fix that spot for now, but I wouldn't really know how to do it. Maybe I'll have to spend some time on youtube. Isn't there a tee or splitter box by the differential where the left and right lines join? I think I only need to correct it to that point to be good. Pretty sure I can buy the pre-bent line for that little section for next to nothing.

Yep. There is a junction. Makes it way easy. If you can get pre bent one on line that'll work too.

So I went to advanced and had them cut me a 21" piece of line, they flared it and put the fittings on as well. Made a few bends like the original and put it on. Really easy job. No leaks, brakes work great. Still need to bleed them a bit more due to my squishy pedal, but it's all good. thanks for the help
