Swapping engines...do I need to take this off and other questions

I'm tearing down the replacement engine right now. I have yet to remove the bad engine yet so I have no comparison. Does the flexplate need to come off? My car is a 5 speed so I have a flywheel correct? Any advice for what I should do to the block before I start slapping my parts on it? I will not be removing anything internally on the block. I will remove the oil pan because this was a fwd engine. Can the freeze plugs be swapped with the internals in it? I am going to clean and paint it. Feel free to offer up advice!

If you have a manual , you have a flywheel. Auto is a flex plate. Not interchangeable.
Before you remove any parts you really should have cleaned the motor up, but that ship has sailed..... You don't want to get that debris inside the engine. I would use my shopvac to suck all that garbage off the valve covers before it falls into the valley. Stuff some rags into the ports and cover things up, or put the intake back on it until its cleaned up.
Take note of any oil leaks before you remove anything. The motors out, this is the time to change any gaskets.
Then get some purple cleaner and scrub it down good. Now you can remove the parts without fear of contaminating the engine internally. Change out any gaskets you need to. Freeze plugs if they are rusty , or weepy. swap on whatever parts you need/want onto the new motor, and then paint it. Don't forget, you can clean the engine bay too. A clean car is a happy car!

i sell purple power at advance auto parts, oriellys sells it too id recommend the gunk gel or original though for the thick stuff then the purple power for the lighter stuff. yes freeze plugs can be swapped if leaking otherwise no benefit to "swapping" you just buy new ones if they are bad.

Awesome, thanks for the info. There's no benefit to changing the freeze plugs if they look good?

freeze plugs serve one purpose, if your block starts to freeze(from water instead of coolant) or anything potentially risks cracking the block could be overheating too they pop out, theres no added benefit to new ones unless the old are bad, is it a bad idea to replace them? nope go for it vicegrips and a hammer and drift is all you need then grab new freeze plugs some locktight around the edge i like to use and a big socket and tap em back in place
