  • K Member help please!

So the Trans Am has sat dormant long enough. Im in a better position financially now, so the transformation begins.

Im about to order all UMI front end.

I have decided to go with the Tubular K member and upper and lower A arms
I need to know if i order the LT1 k member because its a 97 or if i order the LS1 k member because im putting a 5.3 in it.
The LS1 is what i figured to match the motor mounts up, i think the two k members are interchangeable on the car side.

Im also ordering my driveshaft loop and strut tower bar from them at the same time.

    LS k-member.

if you're not dead set on UMI, you should check out Mid-west Chassis. when i ordered mine about a year ago it was lighter and cheaper than the UMI/BMR ones. i want to say it was it was around $200 for the k-member and solid mounts together.

      I just looked them up.
Their kits are all adjustable. I dont really want or need that.
And their kit with upper and lower arms is 1500
Umis kit is only 1250, rather use a main stream brand just for known review

Other units are cheaper for a reason. They might be good enough for the drag strip but they get beat up on the street. If it sees any track time with turns I would only be looking at the UMI RR piece. I know many will disagree with me but another member (I'll let them chime in if they choose to) found out the hard way with a set of BMR control arms.

^^ think I know who you're talking about. But UMI is just as vulnerable....buddy of mine auto-x's his and cracked one his upper arms.

I've got the full UMI front end set up, but never drive it sooooooo I'm not much help

o·vr·kill [oh-ver-kil]1. an excess of what is required or suitable, as because of zeal or misjudgment.

The UMI uppers are better but still weak. For upper arms the only good ones are Global West or stock, with the stock arms being stronger than the aftermarket units. UMI does make a good lower control arm that is very close to the old LG arms, but at that point I don't think it's worth it over just putting rod ends on the stock lowers. You don't need the adjustability of the aftermarket units when you can just slot the K member for free. My first post was specifically referencing K members though.
