  • Looking for some insight on V6 motor

So here is what happened to my V6. Last November I was driving home from work and swung by my buddies to pick up my new M&P. Left his place and headed home. Got to Grand River in Howell and had a really bad rattling/knocking noise coming from the front of my Camaro. Pulled through the light and with the pedal all the way to the floor I barely had any acceleration, just as I got through the light my engine shut off and looked down at the gauges and had no oil pressure. Got it to coast down the hill and into a parking lot where I had it towed back to my garage where it has sat on stands since.

I have talked to a few people and have gotten a lot of different ideas. Wondering if this has happened to anyone before or if you know what it might be.

Here is what I have heard:

    - Spun crank bearing
    - Clogged oil pump,
    - Broken Timing Chain
    - Broken Con Rod

There is no hole in the engine where I would of lose oil. I drained it and didnt find any particles in the oil. I propped the passenger valve cover up to see the springs and tried to turn the crank with a breaker bar and it wouldnt budge.

    Any thoughts?

Regardless of what happened to the engine, that thing has to come out for a tear down. Just too many variables.

If you are going to do it yourself, take pictures and post them up. It should be pretty obvious.

If you are going to buy a used engine, look for a L26 Series III long block. Better chances that it hasn't had a intake gasket failure.

If it won't turn with a breaker, it's dead as a doornail
When in doubt, Whip it out !

Look at the end of each sparkplug is tip, is it there or did something bang in to it. Oil residue. or burned oil fluffy black. Its a start. There are write ups on here to drop out the bottom, that's the easiest way to go, engine and trans on kframe.

This. If you want to figure it out tear it down... But a replacement engine is what youre going to need.

Then sell or part your car out and buy an LS1 car. You'll spend more doing the swap.
