Question About Motor Oil's

Hey everyone, i have been reading up on the topic of motor oils trying to make a rock solid decision as what to use in my freshly rebuilt 95 lt1 and still have no idea, so i was hoping maybe you guys could help me narrow the results or just recommend the best i can get. i know there are a couple that seems to keep popping up such as AM Soil and Royal Purple but i have always ran Castrol. Anyways, can you guys give me some feedback as what to run in my car and should it be synthetic or not? Thanks!

After I had my motor rebuilt I used Shell Rotella non synthetic for the first two times, and then I switched to Mobil 1. Maybe its the marketing but I just trust M1. I think any modern oil will work fine.

I recommend using a break in oil for 500 miles.
My work is a distributor for Brad Penn Oil and they have a high performance line. There are few things I like about it 1. Its made in the USA 2. It cheaper than Mobil 1, ams oil, Royal Purple 3. The high performance line (Grade 1) has higher level of ZDDP for anti-wear/anti-scuffing protection.

Bingo- I do not know for a fact but I believe mobil 1 was/is paying GM. Most people who by a Corvette/Cobalt SS/ Camaro SS etc are loyal to buying mobil 1 in the future.

Do not skimp on the filter, it is also very important. Pennzoil Platinum or Ultra and QS Ultimate Durability are 3 other very popular synthetics.

Every new GM engine since 2011 is required DEXOS certified which is at least semi-synthetic to full synthetic specs, so alot of good oils and information out there to decide.

Brad Penn Grade 1 break-in oil and straight weight oils are mineral based.
Brad Penn Grade 1 multi viscosity (0w30, 5w30, 10w30, 10w40, 15w40, and 20w50) are partial synthetic.

Thanks to all you guys for your input and the link to the tech article, it was very informative. One last question, what weight would you recommend for winter driving and summer driving? I see some people saying they run a 0w something or so. I never heard of anything like that but i want to be sure i run the best i can even if it means ordering it. What is considered a "Quality" oil filter?

winter it will get down in the low teens some times and summer it gets upto 100.....i drive it year round.......

Lots of documentation on there as to why you wouldn't want to run Mobil 1. I personally use Redline, but that's more due to my extreme usage.
