  • Problem with oil dipstick on 95 LT1

Hey everyone, i need some guidance....a couple of days ago i replaced all my plugs and wires on my 95 lt1. In order to get the old wire off on the rear passenger side i had to remove my oil dipstick tube. Ever since then i have had a oil leak there. the more RPM's i turn, the more oil splashes out of the hole. Can someone please tell me if there is a certain way or orientation the dipstick tube goes in to prevent this or am i missing something? I have the tube inserted into the block up to the metal ring or neck on the end of the tube. Help please!
    Thanks,
    Stephen

Lol....I wouldn't either buddy. I'm gonna remove the starter tomorrow and see if I can get it in correctly.
            Thanks,
            Stephen

Well, took the starter off and done it right. Cleaned the oil dipstick tube with brake parts cleaner as well as around the hole in the block where the tube goes in. Put a nice coat of Red RTV high temp on the tube, had my wife steady the top of the tube while I was underneath and gently guided it into the block. Bolted her up correctly and let her setup. That was around 3PM EST yesterday so I'm figuring around noon today the RTV should be setup....Hopefully. If all went as planned this should fix my little oil leak at the dipstick tube.... Thanks everyone!
              Thanks,
              Stephen

Well everyone, after all the trouble i went through yesterday to stop oil from splashing out of my oil dipstick tube, i am back. The first trip down the road 4 miles and i began smelling burnt oil again. Pulled over and looked under the car and oil was dripping from my crossover pipe on the exhaust. I have done everything i can think of to seal this up but it is not working....i let the RED Permatex (RTV) set for almost 24 hours and it still didnt hold. What else can i possibly do to correct this? I have cleaned the dipstick tube with brake parts cleaner as well as the block where it goes in. Applied RED RTV to the dipstick tube and bolted it to the block....What am i missing? Will JB Weld fix this? Please, any help is appreciated.....Thanks!
                Thanks,
                Stephen
