Hey guys, im curious, my 94 Z supposedly has a new rebuilt motor according to the previous owner. I have no way of knowing if this is true or not but looking at the motor it does have all new gaskets everywhere. Anyways, assuming my LT1 is all stock, what combination of cam, lifters etc. would i look at for just a mild build? Also, i have been trying to date my motor and i can't find any stampings at all except a G6 327.....Anybody tell me exactly where to look for the casting #'s.

I can see where the numbers stamped but there is no way I can make out the numbers....I do have aluminum heads if that means anything though?Originally posted by 98blackbeauty View Postthere are numbers stamped verticaly along the end of the block on drivers side. Thanks,

Aluminum heads just means you do have Camaro or Corvette heads - Impalas/Caprices had the iron heads.
The only way to for sure know the date of your engine and trans would be to look at the date stamped on them.

To answer your original question too, I would think it depends who you asked on what makes a "mild" build. Everyone's opinion would be different. I would consider my build to be "mild" but I have an aftermarket intake, cam, heads, fuel system, etc.

Yeah at that point it's just opinion. I would say the LT4 hotcam kit is a pretty mild build.- Brian Meissen

It's best to start with your goals (hp, track times, drivability, budget, etc.) then spec a build based on that. Mild is so subjective... I tend to think mild manners when I hear mild build, not necessarily mild performance or mild budget. Other people might think otherwise.

Thanks Brian, from what i gathered from my stampings, i have a 95 Chevrolet 350 5.7......As far as my tranny, my car is a transplant so i assume the VIN on it will be totally different. I know if you stomp the gas that it lays 2 black marks instead of 1....would it be safe to assume it is posi? Thanks,
Stephen

Thanks Birdie, as far as my goals, i want something thats as fun as it can be with not having to use alternative fuels. I would like to get around 350 to 375 HP if possible. Right now as far as budget, i have $500 to invest but will have more later so i want to make the best of what i use it on. I know its not much as far as a build, but its just a start.....Originally posted by birdie2000 View PostIt's best to start with your goals (hp, track times, drivability, budget, etc.) then spec a build based on that. either way if you put 350 at the crank you need premium gas. If your budget is 500, then I would start with long tube headers and y pipe. let your engine breath and don't have to tune it. Then next thing I would do is CA intake, that will just about blow 500 budget. Then next step when you have more coin, cam, rollor rockers 6:1, push rods and maybe 30 lb injectors. This step requires you open up engine so you also need gasket set, and porting heads if you have enough money. All this will require a good tune. Start checking your area who does a good street tune. The throttle body will more than handle the air flow for this so don't waste your money here.Last edited by 98blackbeauty; October 14th, 2013, 01:23 PM.sigpic
