Are you sure it's that and not the braces where the screws come down thru the cover?
You don't really want to chop that out cause that keep your TB from sucking in a crap load of oil.
Only other option is to go aftermarket covers that don't have that real big baffle in them.

My rockers hit the braces on the centerbolt tubes, not the baffle.

it won't just pop out, but then again I didn't really crank on it too hard for fear of breaking stuff. And I have a small, round filter that is external of the valve cover to trap the oil.

I think these guys hit the nail on the head. I didnt notice on facebook your braces are still intact. Those are well known to NOT clear. I had to cut the wider side of mine out, so thats probably what you are actually hitting.

When I tried to put on the valve cover, I looked underneath and could see clearly that the baffle was hitting the rockers. On the driver's side, I just had to bend the braces a bit to make them fit. I just looked at the [stock] valve covers that came on the engine and tried to emulate how those were modified. The passenger side valve cover that came on the engine did NOT have the baffle.
